I just bought a 2007 saltwater edition E-tec new in the box from a dealer. 3 year warrenty included. Comes with prop, controls, wire harness, cables. My brother and I will be installing it on my boat, then we have to take it to a E-tec dealer to have it dialed in. I have heard stuff about computer up dates, what should I be aware of when talking to the dealer? We will be running the evinrude 100 something synthetic oil. I heard about having motor set up for that. What kind of problems have they had with the 2007. any concerns that I should be aware of. Puting on a 24 foot lone star that we completely re done into a center console. we have a fuel water seperator. sub floor 38 gal gas tank. has oil gas mixture for last engine in it. we will be pumping out gas mixture and flushing a couple of times with more unmixed gas. Is this enough? Tryed to google for Tach and warning gage. hard to find. where can I pick these items up and what should I expect to spend for them. Did I miss anything? Thanks in advance. Dan

Re: new motor question

Dan, great purchase. The dealer will be able to help you with all your questions. The etech is the best motor out there and you scored by buying a 2007 with a full warrenty.

You can rig it but do not try to start it as oil system needs to be bled and timing, throttle and other sensors must be checked by "puter"

You need a BRP tach w/ alarms or a BRP alarm, either available from a BRP dealer. MAP upgrades to the EMM are free during the warranty period. About the only maintenance you should consider doing yourself is changing gear oil (300 hrs or 3 yrs), greasing fittings and prop shaft and changing plugs (they are warrantied for 3 yrs) and they MUST be indexed. Unless you have a lot of knowledge, diag sw and a lot of special tools, most everything else is only for a certified dealer tech. This is not your father's motor! I have a pair of 07 175's and they've been great. Do not EVER consider mixing oil and gas, or you will destroy the motor (oil will never see anything in the crankcase).
