New Motor, Water in Fuel Warning Buzzer

I recenlty got a new boat with new Yamaha F250. Motor has just over 2 hours on it. Time and RPM according to the break in schedule. Never been to WOT, just a short cruise in Coinjock canal to get over the 2 hour mark.
Anyway, after installing Blue Sea System Batt switch and auto charge relay, I started the motor on muffs and hose to make sure charging system was doing like it was supposed to. Looked good, charging relay and batteries appeared to be doing what they were supposed to do. Motor ran maybe 3 minutes on the muffs, water never came out the telltale. This evening I wanted to check it again, put the muffs on, water going, turn on the ignition and get the warning buzzer and Water in Fuel warning from the Command link tach. I remove the fuel separator with the sensor from the engine, empty it, dry it and replace it. Warning returns. Unplug the sensor, buzzer still sounds, warning still blinks. Pushing set or mode stops the buzzer, but visual warning still blinks.
New boat, new motor, so I don't know how long it sat on a lot with little or no fuel in it. The water separating fuel filter looks new and undamaged. Do I replace that next and see what happens??
Any help will be appreciated.

Re: New Motor, Water in Fuel Warning Buzzer

water never came out of the telltale?
now I am nervous, the V6 F motors are notorious for smoking water pumps if the muffs are not bungee corded in place. trust me on this.
with the keyswitch off, dissconnect the water sensor connecter under the hood next to the filter. now turn on the key. should not get either the audible or the visual.
yes we do have some issues with overly sensitive/defective water sensors. warrenty will cover it no worries.
but if your ever down on the banks look us up at Joe's marine in wanchese.
good old canal :) thats where I blew my 175 E-TEC 2 weeks or so ago comig back from indiantown creek.
about the time the bridge came into sight she started tapping and stuck a rod through the block :).
did you option your command link with the water pressure sensor? if you did back it over, fully submerge the case and start it, you should have 10 psi water pressure at 1000 RPM or so. if you do its most likly ok.

OK..thanks for the help. I went out (between rain showers), pulled the plug from the sensor on the bottom of the bowl. Turned on ignition, no buzzer, no visual. Gauges acted normally. Turned everything off, plugged the sensor back in, turned on ignition, got buzzer and visual warning. So this means bad sensor??
I don't think I got the water pressure sensor. It came with the speed sensor and the install manual for speed and water pressure sensor, but I see blank line on gauge for that (water pressure) menu item. I would be interested in getting that though, as it is the only sensor this motor is missing.
I have a F115 on my green Maycraft for the last 6 years and never had any problems with it. that motor made me a convert to Yamaha 4 strokes.
New boat is a Contender 21 Open and I plan on fishing out of OI and HI, so I'll be down there eventually. Like everyone else, I am waiting for a good weather day.
I need a tech down this way. Bill Klyver, in Moyock passed away a couple of years ago and I have yet to find a reliable Yamaha technician I am comfortable with.
I hear warranty work doesn't pay well, but if you are interested ( and if this is warranty stuff) can you replace the sensor?? Wait, isn't it on the bottom of that clear bowl?? If so, maybe I can replace it. I just need the bowl.
Waiting to from hear from you.

Monday call Joes marine, ask for Tom or Steve, it may be we can work with you so you dont have to tow the rig anywhere.
My 175 is ready so Ill be heading to portsmouth next week. that and after the fishing the week before easter Ill be back in indiantown creek :).
we will need your primary ID number as well.
I know what you mean about missing Bill, I worked with him for many many years and had almost daily conversations with him his last 2 years.
was a heckuva a guy and very intelligent, we had many conversations ranging from stereos to politics. he was an amuatuer audiophile as well as holding a masters in english.
the water pressure sender is easy to install, its mostly a plug and play item.

edit your phone number out of your post, no sense in displaying it.
call Joes marine in wanchese NC monday.
cant do anything from the house toady :).
yes simply leave the water detect unplugged and keep an eye on the filter cup for anysigns of water accumulation, hopefully your also running the 10 micron yamaha filter or its racor equivalent.

Yeah, I wondered about the number...some forums you're OK to do it.
I do have the big filter, Yamaha, 10 micron??, in the fuel line, from the tank, before the squeeze ball. I did not see any evidence of water when I took the clear bowl/cup off the motor. I'll talk to ya'll Monday. Again, thank you!!
