first of all hello to all, ok here is my question i have changed out about 4 water pumps on my 98 115 intruder and never had a issue I had 4 water pump kits that I bought that was from the omc days all were good . now I bought a new kit that is brp, now when looking over the installation pamphlet they say after you finish putting the water pump back together turn drive shaft counter clock wise to unlock the key then lift up on drive shaft and go clockwise to lock it back in, they say doing this will make the pump more effeciant my omc manuel don't say any thing about this and I have never done it is this somthing new any you experts out there have any info on this procedure. o one more think they say doing this procedure will lock the impeller in a lower position. thank you in advance for your feed back

Doing this keeps the impeller closer to the lower plate in the water pump.

yes you are correct, but when I read the instructions that they said to lift up on the drive shaft and turn it clockwise which will lock the impeller in a lower position and increase its efficiency, I would think it is holding the drive shaft up slightly and causing a miss match on the drive shaft lower gear I my be wrong that's why I was asking this question.

Wrong----The lower driveshaft is pushed up against a thrust bearing.------------Not to worry about the water pump here.

Also, those motors have a 2 piece driveshaft. The upper part turns the water pump impeller. The connection between the two pieces of the driveshaft can have some play.

The impeller is trapped between wear plate and liner in housing and cannot move up or down, The reason you do this is impeller has had a change by BRP as it has a o-ring on bottom of it . You do this to make sure plastic drive key sets and not stuck by ring.
