Rivers and creeks have really started coming up in the last couple days here. They've kept the lake way down for it, ahadn't even started to raise it yet. Pack River rose 4 feet in 2 days. Several large creeks are out of their banks, and it's just beginning. Today only hit 56, with rain. Next 3 days 70 + with rain, then it's gonna cool off again to the mid 50's. Hopefully slow the melting down.
Had a good spawn of kokanee last fall. And they were bigger than in last several years. I understand the fish and game opened Priest Lake up to them. They are catching near limit in CDA lake now also. Heard rumors of a season coming to Pend Orielle, sometime. Can't find the pic I had e mailed me of Granite Creek last fall, fish about 17" and you couldn't see thru them.

Flooding might be an excuse for Kelly to miss work, but I work on the roads and have to do extra when it happens. Found a thread here on painting with rustoleum, and it mentions going over fiberglass. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=473098 I tried painting this weekend. Thursday night got home late, but put on my last coat of epoxy anyway. It cured a bit more than I wanted, but I think it's all ok. Friday I masked the boat and put on a coat of primer. Saturday I got my second coat of primer on before I had to go to work. Tree down in the wind, and creek over the road. After record precip, both rain and snow in Feb, Mar, and April we are now getting temps in the 70's with wind sustained 25, gusts 45 yesterday. Just starting to melt in the mountains. Today I got a coat of paint on. I also ordered some new transom caps, as the rubber bumper on the right side pulled away from the transom when I had the caps and back trim off to reseal the transom. Gotta hurry a bit. My wife informed me I volunteered to drive her back to visit our kids in Indiana and Nebraska next month. My memory is not real good anymore. She is always reminding me of things I volunteered for.

Paint? Wow cant wait to see some pics of it. Seems things are moving along nicely. When are you coming to Nebraska? Hopefully not in July or August as the humidity is just outragous. Keep up the good work!

Re: New owner 21 ft 74 Starcraft aluminum runabout jet

I'm just starting on the paint on the hull, while I wait for fabric. Outside is almost done. Trip is in June, my son was supposed to be getting married on the 21. The did the deed on May 1, only her Mom and Grandmother don't know yet. He says it's complicated. Wife since I volunteered to go to the wedding, I volunteered to go visit both kids.He is in Scott's Bluff. She is moving from Bloominton Indiana to Indianapolis. Pickup gets 15mph, her car gets 40 mph, and gas is $4 a gal trip will be about 4200 miles if we don't add any more. Taking the car.
I guess I missed summer. Thunder storms yesterday with high's in the mid 60's, pouring rain today chance of thunderstorms, and highs in the 40's and lows in the 30's, was gonna be the next 3 days, but they've warmed the prediction some. Don't think I can sneak any painting in during the week. Fabric should be in next week so I'll need to be able to take the boat to Bonners about 40 miles away to get it measured, and hopefully get the fabric for my side panels. I've got to straighten a little (famous last words) wiring, otherwise the side panels are next to go inside the boat. Oh and 1 little piece of decking I haven't got attached yet.

My dad was born in Bloomington, IN. He lived there for 2 years until his father died in a trucking accident then his mom left with the kids and moved to Nebraska. Still have a ton of family out in that area. Wish we could make it out there more often as his uncles health isnt so great anymore. Enjoy your trip.

HEY_YOU Im a batchelor again my wife left for Oklahoma City today for a week. Just me and 45 dogs to care for. I pulled a real stupid thing Friday last week . I Traded trailers on my 16 SS for a newer one and had to switch the tires from the old to the new. WEll I secured the jack onder the axel ( or thought I did) got to working and you all know how tires come off of EZ loader trailers sometime. Was bent over under the back and the boat came off of the jack and full weight on my upper back and left sholder. THAT HURT. well with my wife leaving and to embarased to say much I went for the ibuprofin and said nothing about it. Feels like I cracked a rib or two but no coughin blood so guess Ill heal. GUYS be sure you double check a jacked up boat while working on it. Yes I know you do mostly but as we get older we tend to get less carefull. A few weeks at the lake ought to make me feel better so I plan to go East after this week sounds like your progressing on the Jet. Do you work for K County road dept? . We Might get up to 70 degrees by Friday. That will be welcome.

Puget you gotta be more careful. That's why they make jack stands, or square blocks. I almost did the same thing just over a week ago. Blocking the boat to epoxy the outside, and paint, and the jack tipped. Landed on the trailer, but one trailer tire stayed in mid air with all the weight on the other side. So was I. We don't heal very fast anymore. Not like in our teens and twenties. It could also be a dislocated rib. I think they hurt more, and take longer to heal. Spokane had a high of 43 today, we're usually less, but I didn't hear. I did hear the earthen dam in Hayden Lake is leaking. Is your daughter still there? And I work for Bonner County , north of Sandpoint. Been there 30 years, and asst foreman for about 17. Senior equipment operator for the whole county. Oh and how did you get your wife to go alone. Been trying that for years and it don't work for me. Lucky stiff.
Boatnut, I'm not really looking forward to the trip this year, went last year. I like the mountains, the midwest is too flat for my taste. But, I guess to each his own, I'm not putting anyplace down.
And Kelly we had upper 60's and sun on Wed, 70s and sun on Thursday, 79 and high winds on Friday, 73 on Saturday with 25 mph winds, gusting to 50 and thunderstorms, and 64 on Sunday with over 1/2 inch of rain and high winds. So I guess we had a summer here. Now 43 today, with close to an inch of rain. Not supposed to be as much rain for the rest of the week, but rain every day. Wish someone would donate a garage to build on my property so I could work on things. Oh well, probably not gonna happen. Good luck to ya all on your projects, and fishin if you get lucky enough to get to. And Puget take some time to rest the rib, and get it feeling better.

Re: New owner 21 ft 74 Starcraft aluminum runabout jet

Well another weekend. I finished painting the hull. 2 coats of epoxy, 2 coats of primer, and 2 coats of paint. Not the best job, but not the worst either. Considering all the bugs I trapped on it. Anyone think of a good name with meaning bug catcher? I still have the top frame, and rails to finish painting. I got them primed. only 1 7/8 coats of primer, and I ran out on the back end, over the transom. Of course it had to start raining last night, about 3 hours after I put the last coat of primer on. Really put it down most of the night too. Had to have my tarps off to paint the top of things too. I've got a little trim, and some more on the inside to do yet. I see I got my little Starcraft puller in the pics too. Had the tarps tied to it, now I can start using it again. I only have some of the masking off yet, as I have other painting to do. I had sort of a lazy weekend, good thing I had to spend so much time waiting for the paint to dry. I have to get the side panels done and back up so I can do other things in the boat. Hope my fabric gets here soon. Fuel tanks go in back up against them, on each side, then make the engine compartment. I'm getting there. Oh and I've still got the dash to do. And Puget I hope your back and ribs are feelin better.

I like venus fly trap, or bait trap either one for names. It hasn't rained yet today, so I took a half hour off work and came home and put the first coat of paint on the top frame, and top if the rails. I can still see a couple of dings I didn't get smooth with putty, or pounded out on the sides. You can still see small spots I didn't get all the bugs out of the epoxy, primer, and paint, but I don't think it's too bad.

Amen to that. I've been in a few small tornadoes, don't want to see anymore, nor hurricanes. Both my kids are in tornado alley, My daughter was just telling my wife about one today. Wish they weren't there either, but their choice. And with all my complaining about rain. Nothing like the monsoons in Nam.

Re: New owner 21 ft 74 Starcraft aluminum runabout jet

Put a coat on the top frame last night, and an hour later it was really putting it down. Been raining off and on every since. If this coat works, then I've only got 2 more on the top frame and rails to do. Might touch the transom up too, it doesn't look real even. I am grateful for the progress I made tho. I need to do something to my sprayer. It leaves a good 1/2 cup in a quart sprayer. After it's had the catalyst in it won't keep, so that's a waste. Need to either get a gravity sprayer or modify my hose so it picks up more. Fishin buddy just called, wanted me to go out with him, but the lake is down over a hundred feet yet, waiting for the big amount of water to come. Fish are small too he says. We usually take my Crestliner out on memorial day weekend, but I haven't got it ready yet. He bought him a 17 or 18 ft Starcraft something late last fall, tinny, and hasn't got it wet yet. He was wanting to take it this weekend.

I believe the jet drive was added to this boat in the 70's. They made this type pump in the 70's and 80's from my research and added them to boats later. I have found 2 other starcraft with them added, but neither as old as mine.
