Re: New owner 21 ft 74 Starcraft aluminum runabout jet

Hey you Boy did I ever have a good time in your boat. And did I ever get sunburned. even my ankels. LOL My fault . One would think at my age I should know better. I am sorting photos and will transfer to photobucket and then ( hopefully 0n to the forum. ) Hated to leave so soon but the Pink Salmon awaits me and the motor guy called today and said the 55 Johnson is running fine and it even shifts (electric). all he needs to finish is the new Prop spacers and its ready to go He even removed the carbs ( 3 ) i think and said they were way off. The PO said he ran that this year. rotflmao, It seems a lot of folks that have posted photos are haveing trouble getting them to show on the site. Anyone who reads this have to give a hand to a guy who will give up a days work and take a new friend (stranger ) on a 60 some mile boat ride and not even accept a dime for his services. I am truly indebted to you and will some day get even. My best to your better half again my thanks. Ed Pugetsound

Glad you enjoyed it. I enjoyed showing my boats off, and putting the Starcraft thru her paces. Might be talked in to taking other members if they get up here to. But not all at once. Don't forget to ask your brother in law what they catch below 600 feet. And at 12 or 1300 also. Other than submarines. That goes for you and Zac too Don. I don't think Treasure Island would work too good on it tho. Storms blow up quick up here.

Since I've seen others doing video, I had to try to learn. I don't remember any of my login stuff for utube, so I'll try daily motion. beautiful day on the lake today. Temps in the mid 80's. I could only get 33.4 mph out of her today, but it takes maybe 2 or 3 seconds for that. I've still got a bit of hesitation right in the beginning, but not too bad. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xkwayw_100-8270

what they catch below 600 feet. And at 12 or 1300 also. Other than submarines.
HUMBOLDT SQUID!!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humboldt_squid

They often approach prey quickly with all ten appendages extended forward in a cone-like shape. Upon reaching striking distance, they will open their eight swimming and grasping arms, and extend two long tentacles covered in sharp 'teeth,' grabbing their prey and pulling it back towards a parrot-like beak, which can easily cause dramatic lacerations to human flesh. The whole process takes place in seconds.

Recent footage of shoals of these animals demonstrates a tendency to meet unfamiliar objects aggressively. Having risen to depths of 130?200 metres (430?660 ft) below the surface to feed (up from their typical 700 metre (2,300 ft) diving depth, beyond the range of human diving), they have attacked deep-sea cameras and rendered them inoperable. Reports of recreational scuba divers being attacked by Humboldt squid have been confirmed.[14][15] One particular diver, Scott Cassell,[16] who has spent much of his career videotaping this species, has developed body armor to protect against attacks.[17] Each of the squid's suckers is ringed with sharp teeth, and the beak can tear flesh, although it is believed that they lack the jaw strength to crack heavy bone.[12]

There, I think I got the video working now. I had to reinstall it. Not sure what is down there yet. Puget (Ed) told me he'd ask his brother in law, the fish biologist, or whatever. He hasn't got back to me. Could be the Squid, or maybe some prehistoric fish that are landlocked. Or maybe another Loch Ness Monster. Probably something's down there tho. Other than subs. The Navy does test mini subs here, but that might be classified.

Hey You Brother in-law Tom said . Nothing he knows of at 600 feet and God ony knows whats at 1300 feet. Got my little glasstron 15.5 feet in the river for a couple of day caught a few Pinks they run about 4-5 pounds. Good fighters. Little glasser will do 35 mph. suprised me but the boat is very small. I will finish the much larger fiber form 16 ft and transfer everything to it in the spring. Brother in-law said he diden.t think much was at the greater depth of Pend O Reille lake. I still have not figured out how to post photos on I-boats forum. It looks like the Jet still runs well. I will diff. get my 22 Holiday in the water this fall and send some shots of it in action. If I ever figure out how its done the instructions I get on the net just confuse me more, LOL Pugetsound ED

Nice video!! I tried to watch it yesterday but didn't work works fine now. I decided long ago that I'm not fishing deeper than 300' too much of a pita for me. I suppose there are fish down there and possibly stranger critters but I release a lot of the fish I catch and I think reeling in a little lake trout from 600' would be a death sentence for sure hard enough on the fish from 250 or so.

Yea, I had to redo the video. Never done one before, so I guess it's a learning curve. As for fishing, I've never really went deeper than just over 200 feet. I can tangle enough line at that depth. Lake trout in the spring are usually between about 175 and 250. With 3 people fishing (jigging), and a good gust of wind, you can have a real tight knot when you get all the lines in.

Re: New owner 21 ft 74 Starcraft aluminum runabout jet

Last Sunday I got my new trailer. Tandem axle with surge brakes, and a few spare engine parts, maybe boat too. I finally got it so I could get a couple pics. $400 20 ft fiberform with a cracked block, same size as mine. If I can figure out how to take the outdrive off, I'm hoping to recoup the price just on it. Tinted windshield, with real glass in it even. If I put the new one on, I will have to make a new dash. Been thinking about making it open bow anyway. Edlebrock 600 carb, looks brand new, my quadra jet has been giving me problems even after I had a guy work on it, and bought a kit. That's $300 rebuilt right there. Intake manifold, exhaust manifold, exhaust pips, water pump, alternator, starter, etc are all interchangeable. Trailers like that are going for $600 to $1000. Needs one tail light, one clearance light, and a new plug, and some work on the brakes. My old trailer has a max weight of 2300 lbs, and the boat empty weighs 2250. Wife's been keeping me busy getting firewood in, harvesting apples, and generally getting ready for winter, so I haven't really been able to do much with it yet. I've got my winter projects for this year now.

Thats a great looking trailer. And you got all that for $400? Geesh what a deal and you get to cut up a glasser too! NICE!!!!!

That bow rail hardware wouldn't look too bad on my boat.:)

Nice set up just back it up next to the Crestliner. Might be a nice boat and worth covering for the winter. Strip engine and outdrive and something to practice building a OB bracket on. Keep warm and dry say helllo to the wife for me. ED

It is a nice setup, but I need the bigger trailer, and carb. Cheapest way to get them. Hopefully the outdrive will pay for everything. If I ever have time to take it off. The decking is rotten, and the upholstery is trashed. Lots of good parts tho. Does that prop work any better? I know you said it looked better.

Re: New owner 21 ft 74 Starcraft aluminum runabout jet

At least it would make a good bonfire. Haven't tried the prop yet as unneeded rain turned the Skagit muddy and high. better color today but another day or two needed. The Indians will net the h--- out of the river to get the early Silvers ( Coho ). Lots of pinks but have not gotten to them yet it should be fairly good untill mid Oct. I hope i realy wanted about 20-30 to smoke for the winter. Supose I could buy them from the tribe far less than I could spend fishing for them . I really want to hit the Puget Sound a few times for Silvers as well as use up the old gas in the tank. with my 22 Holiday, Im giveing serious ( thoughts ) about emptying the boat of accessories, -clean it up and mabey try to sell it . I havet used it in over a year. Have to really think that one out. With the 200 on the back and condition ,its a turn key boat ,if I sell it. Bout $4000 or better would get me motivated. The trailer would haul this thing forever.

You are talking the Seattle area. Hope you can get out soon. We finally got a rainy day tuesday here too. Hopefully we'll get some more before the ground freezes and nothing will sink in. Good luck with the silvers. Hopefully the fishing will be good up here next year. I guess they finally started growing and biting in Montana about Labor day. Hate to see you get rid of your 22, but you know your situation better than anyone else. I'f a trailer is what you need, do like I did. You'd probably need it under the 22 to sell it too.

What i ment to say is the trailer is big. big tires and in excellent condition. All is well . Have to take it out ,then see what I think, its been a while . Mabey you can get to Montana for some fall fishing . Took the boat to the river , still gets up to 27 on gps so everything is ok. Fast enough Ed

Re: New owner 21 ft 74 Starcraft aluminum runabout jet

I think boat and fishing time for while is past. Hot water tank started leaking, water bed fell off it's pedestal, never done that in 31 years. Never heard of that, and it doesn't fit back together. Have to manufacture pieces. Putting in a bigger water heater, and plastic, have to remodel to fit it in. Wive's been after me for over a year to fix the roof, needs new screws, have to clean the chimney, still have 2 more cord of firewood to cut, and have to get a plow ready to go on my skidder. We can expect snow sticking in about 2 months, and snowfall by halloween. Think I'm thru on the lakes for this year.
