New owner of a Starcraft "?"

Hello everyone,

I'm glad I found this site!! I'm a new boat owner (having only been on an inflatable and a guided missile cruiser ;) and just picked up this boat. The title says it is a 1963 Starcraft, but does not list a model. I cannot find a tag anywhere. The boat measures 16 ft long, and 5ft 4in across. The "cover" at the bow is about 35 inches to the front. Any help in identifying it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help,

Dave

Hey Dave welcome to the site, sorry I can't help you with a model, but I'm sure someone here will be able too.

Welcome to the Starmada Dave! Have you glanced through the brochures stickied at the top of the forum page? That might give a suggestion as to the mod but she looks like a nice craft!

Re: New owner of a Starcraft "?"

Thanks Chief!

And thanks to the people that supplied those brochures. I had a little trouble reading the specs in the 1963 - 1965 brochures, but it sure looks like this boat is a Marlin. I can read the specs in the 1966 brochure very well, so later today I will compare all the measurements.

Newbie question... Is transom height measured at the highest point, or where the motor mounts? In the center my boat measures 16", and 21" at the outside. The 1966 brochure says that year Marlin had a 21" transom height.

Thanks again for your help!

Hey Dave, welcome to iboats and the Starcraft brotherhood!:D

I don't think I can help ya with the model ya have there, but the cool thing is you can make it whatever you want to buddy:)

On your transom, by your description you have a 16" (short shaft)

Welcome!

Re: New owner of a Starcraft "?"

Thank you Jasoutside and Ezmobee! Weather and work prevented me from getting more measurements today. Ezmobee, the only measurement I have on the bow cover is 35.5" from the center of the bow cover to the "point" of the bow. I see what you mean about it possibly being a Jupiter, Starmist or Stardust. I wonder if someone had modified it along the way.

The transom currently measures 16". I'm not sure if it was cut down to that. I see by the brochures that if I can find the "real" transom height, that it will help identify this thing, haha. What do you guys think, cut down or original height?

Thanks again everyone,

Well, the transom cut looks factory to me anyway. But, that transom looks to be pressure treated dimensional lumber. So, pulling that out and replacing with exterior/marine grade plywood, properly sealed up would be an excellent move;)

Ok dumb question.....did you actually take a tape measure to it lengthwise to verify that 16'? Cuz that transom (looks factory by the way) does not look like either of the models I mentioned but does kinda look like the Dart picture but that's a 14'.

Re: New owner of a Starcraft "?"

Thank you again Jasoutside and Ezmobee!

Jasoutside, yes sir, will start work on replacing that wood soon. Luckily, the aluminum looks great. I will definitely be asking for help with that project. I just bought a low-hour 1993 evinrude 55 commercial from someone who got it at a gov. auction, so I want to make sure it doesn't fall off :)

Ezmobee, I just got some more measurements. Length is exactly 16ft, widest part of the boat is 5ft 4in. The bow cover at it's widest part is 52.5" and 35" front to back. The bow cover is really curved on the ends, so I'm not sure if there was ever a windshield there.

The deepest part of the hull, as best I could measure, is 35". Transom width is 54", height on outside of transom is a bit over 20", mid-transom is 16". All of these measurements match the 1966 marlin brochure, except for the transom height. I cant read the 1963 brochure that well, so it has me going in loops.

Thanks again for everyone's help. This forum makes me want to go buy another Starcraft!!

Dave, These are off the Fiberglassics site, 1963 literature. Your boat does look like a Marlin to me.

I didn't notice that little deck on the Marlin when I looked before. I agree with 64osby! Marlin it is.

Thank you everyone!

64osby, that brochure looks great. I finally know how to answer when people ask what kind of boat it is! Thanks again everyone for your help. This is a great community.
