hello everyone I just purchased a 1989 sunbird corsica 175 equipped with a omc cobra 2.3 and cobra drive unit. I would like to honeslty say i know nothing about I/o boats, I have been doing a lot of research about this particular set up i dont no if the drive is a 400 or 800 or king cobra just couldnt tell you. If any one has any words of advice please let me know I am an experinced auto tech but first experience with a boat the reason I got the boat was cause it has a 2.3 ford built motor so i can rebuild or take the one out my old ranger and throw it in there.

thank you hope to hear from any one soon

Re: new owner

Welcome aboard BMX:

You don't have a 400 or 800 (those are Stringers). I think that's just a standard Cobra (I don't think it's a King). OMC is out of business and parts can be a little tricky to get hold of - but not impossible at all.

As a note: Your truck 2.3 and that marine 2.3 are not quite alike enough to just do a swap. Some parts will - others won't.

Re: new owner

Welcome aboard! I've only been here since May of this year and the people here have taught me a boatload.

You won't find a site with more marine experience or knowledge. Stay tuned.

That Cobra is the worst one for parts.
The manifold is not available ANYWHERE.
If it goes the rest is scrap.
They run real good and are pretty fair on fuel.
The 2.3 is the smallest and the lower unit of the drive is way smaller than the rest.
The King Cobra is the bigger units.
You might have stickers that say King it's not.
Just make sure that you change the oil in the drive the RIGHT way.
You fill it wrong then your buying a new drive.
It fills from the side, not the bottom.
You fill it from the bottom then you miss about a 1/2 qt of oil and the upper takes a crap.
Make sure it's done right!!!!Fills at #46
