Ok in my search for new power for my 20 ft pontoon I have found a 95 Hp Mercury Jet motor
Would a jet work on a pontoon ? would the jet be slow out of the hole ?

Re: new power

A jet would push a pontoon but control would be the issue. Get some wind involved and steering would be a big issue. Jets are inefficient both with fuel and movement. The slower the jet runs the less it has available for steering. Backing up a watercraft is ok because it dosn't weight much and low profile. Moving a pontoon can be hard enough with a prop.

Don't do it Larry. Not saying it wouldn't work to push the barge, but you really need a prop for slow speed maneuvering around the launch & docks, IMO. Party barges are already inefficient plowing through the water & a jet drive would only make the problem worse. I don't believe I've ever heard of anyone trying this. Good luck !!!
