I have sprung a few leaks in my old pressure tank and was thinking of doing one of two things. Either converting to regular fuel pump, or takeing the actual pump assembly out of the old tank and finding a plastic tank that is flat enough on top and cutting out and installing the old tank assembly. Does anyone have any ideas on either of these, cost and effiency of converting, any problems with going with old assembly and new plastic tank(will this work). Thanks

Do Notattempt to pressureize a plastic tank!!!! It will blow up like a ballon. And I mean literally blow up!!! There are a lot of pressure tanks on e-bay. Practicality of converting to a fuel pump depends on what motor you have. Some are a piece of cake, others require hard-to-find parts, others are impractical.

Yelladog....lay down until the feeling goes away....if you're thinking about retrofitting a plastic tank to a pressure system. Drop over to Ebay and grab a replacement tank or replace the pressure system with a fuel pump. Post your motors model number and we'll find a fuel pump.

Its a dang good think I posted this then, I was at the local outboard repair shop today priceing a new motor for a friend and just threw the idea up about the pressure tank and he acted like it might work. Now that you mention it, does sound like an acident waiting to happen. It just crossed my mind, but had not put that much thought into it.( Scratch that idea ) I would much rather have the fuel pump, seems much more practical. The motor is a 1959 Evinrude 10 Fastwin. #'s are 10018 11032 Thanks Alot Guys

You will have to scrounge up a bypass port that has the mounting holes for a fuel pump. Check the ones on your motor--if you are lucky there might already be one there but it will need to be drilled and tapped. Once you find that, it's a piece of cake. The fuel pump mounts to the bypass cover with a gasket, replace the hose connector with a #376154 for single hose, Use a Sierra Marine 18-7351 fuel pump (from NAPA auto parts and others), and hoses to connect it all together.

I didn't catch this at first: 10018 is indeed a 1959 10hp. But it's called a Sportwin. A Fastwin is 18hp. Something's amiss there.

If I were you, I'd stick with the pressure tank. There's still a lot of them around if you look in the right places, and they're not expensive. I was at a classic boat show last weekend and there was one for sale for $20.00. Pretty cheap fix.
