Hey I just bought this last week and will be restoring it. I got it for $400 with trailer and motor and all the stringers have been replaced along with the transom and deck and all fiberglassed over as well. Really the only work that I will be doing is probably replacing the carpet as this guy did not do a great job and replacing the engine as it is missing a couple very expensive parts and is really not worth the work. I will then be doing some mild exterior fiberglass repair on small cracks and then painting it at the very end. Any idea what this boat is worth as I called Harvey and the son told me there were only 50-100 ever made? Also any ideas where I can find a descent priced used outboard running and not needing to much work? Let me know what you think-Chris

Chris, I can't really speak to the value of the boat, but I can tell you it's worth more than $400! That's a pretty great find. I would start checking craig's list for used motors. People are beginning to dump off their old gear as it's nearing the end of the season. I've been checking listings here in Dallas the last few days and have found some amazing deals. Just be careful that the seller has a title, depending of course on the title laws of your state.

You seem to have gotten hold of a good deal considering so much of the work's been done for you. With the rest being mostly cosmetic, you'll have her running in no time I'm sure! Congrats!

Hey thanks for the complement. One thing I am wondering though is when I end up getting another motor that's running should it come with new instrument controls such as the key solenoid and gauges or can I find that stuff online and is it pretty much universal?

Generally speaking, you should look for a motor that comes with the controls. This usually means the throttle assembly and the key assembly and such if it is an electric start motor. The controls for my 91 Merc for example is a single assembly with the throttle, the fast idle control, the key, and the electric choke. You can replace them if you find a motor without them but I think that is usually an expensive option.

That's the bulk of what you'd look for as far as a motor. The rest of your instrumentation, your gauges I mean, is more or less generic. You can order that stuff from Ebay or Amazon or anyone else you care to order from.

Some motors, like mine, have wiring that comes from the engine for an oil temp gauge and a tach and possibly other things. But I don't have to have anything specific to that motor. I can get a generic tach and attach it to my motor since the wiring is there.

So, look for a motor that comes with the throttle assembly and then look for your gauges separately. I hope this helps.
