Re: New Project..................

I've got a buddy who works in at the Florida DMV and he is going to run the numbers on it for me on Monday when he gets to the office.

Way to go! Very wise decision. Good luck and I hope the project turns out well for you. Keep us posted.

Wow! Good luck if you decide to go forward on that one. It is a cool looking boat, I'm thinking what it would look like finished. Hope you've got deep pockets. Again, Good Luck.

That may be true but that will give him a place to start and the possibility of obtaining legal title without the hassle of proving the boat was home made. If nothing useful turns up he won't be any worse off than he is now. It might also protect him from losing the boat to the current legal owner (if any) it after he has put a bunch of time and money into it. Again I wish him good luck. I think he can end up with a really nice rig and something he can be proud of.

Okay................. Here we go,
I was told by my County Tax Collector that the last person the boat was legally registered to is whom I need to contact to get a duplicate title. This guy was the last one who had it registered in 2001. Even if it has been sold several times since then it was not registered. So as far as Florida Law is concerned it is still owned by a guy in Pensacola. Hopefully he is still alive..... If he is not then I have to have the court sign off on it. One thing at a time though.
If it was under 16' I could title it as a Homemade boat. But that's not the case. My buddy that told me that had only restored boats under 16' so that is why he was saying that.
O-well, but I am on the right track now.

Yep, as long as the Registered owner is still alive and everything goes easy it should cost me $14.00 for the duplicate title. Plus the cost of a dinner for the guy. So $100 give or take............. If he's dead then it opens up another can of worms......... One thing at a time.... I may wind up building a scratch boat after all !!

I've got the title in my HAND !!!
I wrote the original/last registered owner and he went to the DMV and got a duplicate title for me. Mailed it over to me and wished me the best of luck.
SOOOO, Now I can begin the project !!!

I am getting ready to go out of town again but when I get back to town I will begin the assembly. I need to get a few tarps and rig up a tent to keep everything dry. After that I will begin the wood work. And I have to cut the damn "crab cabin" off the thing.
