The propeller on my Mercury 850 seems to be really chipped up. Seems that past owners dug the bottom going forward and reverse by the looks of things. Figuring that every ding will put the blades out of balance with each other, I am considering replacing it with a new one. I am considering a 4 prop to lower vibrations. Is this an OK idea? What would be a good pitch to have? I don't know what the current pitch is as I haven't pulled the old one yet.

Thanks

Re: New Prop for Mecury 850

i have a 1977 mercury 850 mounted on a 15' bayliner and the gentlmen told me to go with a 17 or 19 pitch three prop, he said that is good for pulling tubes and doing a great hole shot, now not knowing what size of a boat you have i can't really say if a four prop would be good.
