When winterizing the boat for the winter storage, the boat shop guy told me that I was starving my boat of speed with the prop that I have on the boat. I have a 1995 Bayliner Capri with a 5.0L V8 Mercruiser. The speedometer will read just under 50mph on smooth water, throttle wide open.

I want my boat to have all the ability she can get and was wondering what I should look for when shopping for a new prop. What types, brands, pitch angles, make, metal type, 3 wing or 4 wing prop.

Most importantly, what types will fit my boat?

Off course the boat shop is willing to do it for me but I have really grown fond of my arm and leg over the past few years and am not really willing to part with them just yet.

Post your question here.

Find your top speed using GPS; boat speedometers aren't the most accurate devices in the world.

thanks NYBo

I posted in the props area also.

As for boat speedometers, you are so right. The needle jumps quite a bit but early afternoons, I can get a "smooth needle" reading. Still not as accurate as GPS but I dont have a GPS system that shows speed. May need to find one just to get an understanding on the boat speed.
