well my old 91 merc finally kicked the bucket.... well kinda. my mechanic told me it spun the main bearing and caused the flywheel to hit the stator. it still runs but sounds ugly. so instead of investing 3 grand into i just decided to get a new motor with a warrenty. so now i got a 2003 150 xr-6 on the back. my problem is finding the right jackplate and prop setup. i'm using my old prop now breaking the motor in but i believe a different one will increase performance. its got a 24 pitch small hub 4 blade on it right now but i've been told to try a 23 or 25 tempest. the boat is a 91 sprint 18 ft single console bass boat. its a real heavy boat to be so short.

i was wondering if anyone might give some ideas on prop selection and jackplate setup? o yea i also got a 91 xr4 150 in my garage on a stand if someone needs a parts motor or wants to put the money in it to rebuild. its got a good lower unit, carbs, and a nearly new flywheel and stator. just shoot me a figure... thanks in advance

Re: New Prop Selection

right now i'm turning around 5200 full trim but the speed isnt there. i'd say 45 or so. between 3000 and 3500 i'm getting real bad water slapping [will nearly throw you out]. the book said no more than 5600 max rpm.
