I'm looking for a back up prop for my Larson LXI 228. Volvo Penta SX 5.0 gxi. Currently have a 3 blade 14.3X21". Thinking of getting a 4 blade aluminum prop as a back up. Does anyone have any recommendations in regards to this and if so, what diameter and pitch? Thanks.

Re: New Prop

The four blades are supposed to give better hole shot over a 3 blade. I have been told that if you go to a four blade you should go up in pitch by one inch to get the same top end performance as a 3 blade. I don't know this from experience just what I was told by some bass boat guys. Hope this helps.

Re: New Prop

Ask or better read up in the Prop forum.
Also iboats sells Solas Amita 3 and 4 blade props. The website has a prop choosing tool. The props are very good. I bought one last summer and I am rather happy with it.

Good luck

Re: New Prop

Just replaced my stock aluminum 14.3 X 21 with a Stilleto 14.5 X 21 Stainless. Much smoother and faster to plane. I went from 29mph @ 2900 rpm's to 34 mph @ 2900. Planing at 22mph now, which is 3 mph better than before. I rode in a 175 with a 3.0 liter (4 cyl.I/O). He could plane at 15mph. Now I want Smart Tabs, cuz' planing that slow, is very cool. Stilletto SS $384 (w/hub insert) off the internet. Same setup $479 (+tax) @ West Marine.

Re: New Prop

I hit a rock with my stock prop, so since that is getting fixed i have tried several different props and here's what I have found. First was a Turbo 23 pitch 4 blade SS, this prop couldn't even get my 05 Lxi 228 to plane. I would hit 3800 rpms and it would instantly jump to about 5400 rpms and over rev. Just today I have another Turbo 4 blade SS in a 19 pitch and the hole shot was amazing but I was still over reving at about 5400 rpms and only doing around 36 mph. I'm going to try a high five 21 pitch 5 blade this weekend and see how that works. Anyone have any other suggestions? So far the best prop has been my stock alum 3 blade, I really want a good all around prop. I don't need to do 50 mph but I would like to do more than 37 mph and I like pulling tubers, so I would love a good hole shot. Please help. Thanx
