New propeller

I have a 1985 85 HP Force and I would like to replace the prop. <br /><br />Looking for advice on what to ask for and where is the best price.<br /><br />My boat is a 17 foot Fibreform and I will be doing quite a bit of trolling at 10 knots. I would think a 15 or a 17 pitch would be best. Props are sold here on Iboats.<br /><br />TMD

The hustler props by turning point are awesome. Put one on a 1983 85 HP Force and it made a world of difference. I think it was a 13 1/4 dia. by 15 pitch.

Force props cross reference to Quicksilver (Merc) to some extent, and therefore on to Hustler and other after market products.<br /><br />I have no complete list but you may be able to make something out from this:<br /><br />Force 3hp uses same prop series as Merc 2.5, 3.3<br /><br />Force 70hp uses same prop series as Merc 50-60hp<br /><br />Force 90, 120, 150 hp uses Quicksilver prop no. <br /><br />Alu: 817718A41 <br />Stainless Laser II: 48-1699xA40 (x=value 0 to 6, designating pitch 20 to 26") <br />Stainless HighFive: 48-81574xA40 (x=value 2 to 8 designating pitch 20 to 26") <br /><br />This range also fits Merc 90-115 (4-cyl) range but not whole prop range for these Mercs appears to be interchangeable.<br /><br />Force 90-150 requires thrust hub washer 23-819057 to use Quicksilver props.<br /><br />Quicksilver props designed for Force are named 'P###', 'P####' or 'P###-#' covering both alu and SS, and there is a Force 90-150 prop called 5H258 (13½ x 24 SS).<br /><br />All mentioned props are for 4 1/4" gearcases, thus smaller than those used on MerCruiser drives (4 3/4") which will not fit a Force.<br /><br />Props for Merc even fits a Mariner equivalent.

Pardon my ignorance, but I was under the impression that the older Force motors used a non-thru-hub exhaust prop, while Merc motors use a thru-hub exhaust prop. Does this mean that someone has figured out a way to fit a thru-hub exhaust prop to a non-thru-hub exhaust Force LU?<br />I have seen loadsa Merc motors, and they all have a thru-hub exhaust prop. I have only seen one Force (my own 40hp) and I had a heck of a job finding a spare non-thru-hub exhaust prop for it. I eventually got one on Ebay. <br />Or is it that there are older style Merc props with a non-thru-hub exhaust?<br /><br />Does anyone know for sure?<br /><br />Bill

As stated, this is not a complete list. Older Force's had no thru-hub, that is correct.<br /><br />Merc has used thru-hub for ages (as far as I know they had it patended since they invented it and the others adapted it when the patent ran out).<br /><br />The list is derived from a catalogue that came out from Quicksilver in 1993. <br /><br />Props fitting Mercs are thru-hubs unless the solid-hub Cleavers and Choppers (they have a narrow hub that allows all exhaust to come out on the blades).<br /><br />I think earlier Force's use shear pins and as such can use any prop that fits the gear house, shaft & pin.<br />Further down in my archive I have a Michigan catalogue from 1982 but that doesn't even mention Force.

I forgot to mention that part, sorry. I went to the local prop shop and what they did was match a merc hub and I think a OMC housing for to make it work. I actually brought the boat to them it was the first time they had done it so they had to test fit everything, If I remember right I had to buy a new thrust washer too. They have everything on file now for the older Force motors so they can give you part numbers and get it from them or someone else. RTW2112,<br /><br />Let me get this straight - You have a custom prop (albeit made up from standard merc hub and OMC housing).<br />So I assume some standard Merc props may fit some older Force motors, with or without new thrust washers, but its always gonna be a 'fit by trying'?<br />I think I'm glad I found my spare prop already!

No, They test fit it on mine to get the correct size washer. They now have it as a kit, you can call and order it and they know exactly what to give you. When you have a 20 year old motor sometimes you have to do adapt things to work with it. In my case they didn't make any decent props for that motor that is why I went that route. The Hustler prop is superior to any Force replacement prop. Plus if you damage it you only have to replace the housing not the hub. It cost me 99.00 for the kit a year ago and a replacement housing was 60 dollars. Cheaper than getting a standard one fixed.

My Bad .......<br /><br />I forgot that Hustler props are a 2 part kit!<br />If I had known they fitted I could have gone that route for a new prop. Unfortunately no one else on these forums seem to know about this either - when I posted asking advice about spare prop for my Force, Ebay was the best answer given. And it was good advice - I got a brand new Quicksilver branded prop - including shipping to the UK - for under $75.<br />It would have been interesting tho, 'cos the Hustler gets a good write-up, and is meant to noticeably improve performance! Still - maybe next time.........<br /><br />Bill

Ok, does anyone have a part # for a hustler prop for a 87 force 50hp.. I am buying a new prop anyway, and would like the best possible for the engine. thanks alot

I have looked far and wide on the web, and visited 2 dealers that sell Hustler Props, and contacted Turning Point directly. They tell me they do not make a hub that will fit the older Force motors. Can't find them for the older models on the link you gave.<br /><br />I would buy a Michigan Wheel prop and be done with it. Got the Hustler aluminium prop from Boatsrus fits fine. I would have gotten it here if they had the right prop.<br />Took off the nut and washers and installed the new thrust washer as instructed. Installed the A1 hub kit and the OMC housing. Works fine but have not run the boat yet. It was easy as pie to install and the exhaust still exits through the snout. The issue is the trust washer Turning Point is doing themselves an injustice if they could not figure this out. My two cents

realgun, what motor did you get this prop for? I need one for a 1973 Chrysler 70 and wonder if these hubs will fit?

Mine is an 88 85 Force with a 15/16 inch nut. The hub is the 1A that fits the shaft on mine then the hub is the OMC hub. The only thing I needed to do was switch the Thrust washer. Its a little thicker than the one that was on the motor. I will be going stanless and can now get that from Iboats cause I know what I need and I have the correct thrust washer. Just priced it 298 for the stainless steel prop. Not bad here on Iboats!<br /> Prop <br /> Hub<br />Phils Prop said the older motors may not take the hub due to shaft length not enough thread left to put the nut on.
