LOL work area... Its on the trailer on the city street. Its too big to fit in my garage if I park it in the driveway I'm either blocking the sidewalk or can't get my Harleys out of the garage and if I park it in the grass I can get fined for damaged the flood plain. I wish I had a better set up and answer but I'm just gonna have do what I can for now.

Oh, OK...that definitely is going to make this mission a very difficult one...especially when you start getting into the nitty-gritty of having to grind fiberglass...erecting even a temporary enclosure on a city street may be highly frowned upon by the city folk...
How big is the garage vs. the boat, not including the trailer and the motor?

I got some more teardown complete. Good news is that the decking doesn't run as far into the under storage as I thought. It seems to run just to the stringers and then its hull on the other side. I still need to vacuum really well and remove the battery box fuel tank and the console. But can't see the brackets for all the mess. I found out today that I might be able to get good straight 16 foot boards locally and I think 2 of those should about be all I need for the stringers. I'll be able to measure better once all this mess is cleaned up

I can kinda see what you're talking about with the deck in the front. It looks as if it has a "tongue" sticking towards the front of the boat. Iwas figuring all that front storage was sitting on the deck, but it appears not to be. That was part of my concern in you needing to remove the cap, but I'm still not sure about the transom until I see it up close. Have I missed the fuel tank in these pictures?

It sits here in the right rear. Is just seems to be bolted down somehow. Not sure yet because of all the debris

Not trying to get ahead of myself or anything but since I already have to remove it anyhow. Can I just get a different console for this boat without having to do MAJOR rework? This ones beat up anyhow. I am sure it can be restored but not sure its worth it in the long run. I eventually would want a setup with a radio(both marine and AM/FM).

Re: New proud owner of a total basket case.

So I met a member off here today (mbasonic) and he mentioned that I might need the center beam that runs down the middle of my boat that you see in the pics? Any other opinions? I like the idea as it would allow me to make storage spaces underneath the floor like in the fancier boats to store things like life jackets etc. and possible relocate my fuel tank to underneath the floor allowing me more space to put things like beer coolers etc. lol.

As a rule, and lacking the input of an engineer, I would say that you should at least rebuild it to original enginering plan,, with that said, putting a fuel tank at center gravity would make alot of sense..

Redesigning the placement of structural members in a boat isn't a good idea unless you have a degree in structural engineering or can copy the structural design from another boat that will work in your boat. Your keel stringer is the backbone of your boat.

... with that being said, there is a design you can use to put your fuel tank below deck. But it will take more time to build, cost more money, and take more material to build it.

By adding multiple latteral bulkheads you can strengthen your boat enough to remove the keel stringer and make room for a below deck fuel tank like this:

As far as some other kind of storage below deck, you'll probably want to pass on that. You'll need the room for your floatation foam and below deck storage will be prone to dampness and mildew.

Mine had no foam in the center of the boat only on the sides. I am not opposed to that design. I have to tear everything out anyhow. Its a tri hull and honestly it doesn't look that different to what I have minus the large piece of timber running down the middle. I'm just getting opinions here. I only wanna do this thing once.

Re: New proud owner of a total basket case.

The biggest problem you'll have with putting your fuel tank below deck will be finding on the fits properly in the allotted space, then there the cost of the tan... they're fairly expensive. You should check these 2 conditions out before making any kind of structural modifications.

If you'll take the time and use the right materials to restore your boat, and then take care of it by keeping it covered and shielded from the elements when you're done you're boat will last a lifetime and you should never have to go below deck again.

The main reason all of these boats in this restoration forum are here is because they've been neglected and exposed to the elements which causes the rot and waterlogging.

Mine had 15 years of sitting in a storage lot in the Texas sun and the bugs got to it big time

Have you gotten a chance to rip the side parts of the deck out yet? Any further updates/pictures?

No the weather got me sidetracked. I did get a shop vac. I hopefully will have time this week to get deeper into it.

Re: New proud owner of a total basket case.

yes!! you definitely need a shop vac, and you'll want to either get a few extra filters, or become pretty proficient at washing them. Yes, they can be washed. The fiberglass dust clogs up filters like nobodies business. The ideal vaccuum machine would be one of those squirrel cage 55 gallon vacuums, but shop vacs work! +++they are cheaper
did you get an angle grinder yet? or do you have one already?

No I went looking the other day at tools but I have to replace the sunroof in my truck and got myself something nice for my Harley and haven't done it yet. Sunday is designated boat day from now on. So hopefully I can get one before then.

I think this boat is in line for worst sun burn ever. Snap lots of pictures as you investigate the bones of your new project. I see a total rebuid, floors interior, and most likely everything under the floor too. You came to the right place to size up the project, I'll tag along on this one.

Yeah I am working on gritting it stripped out. I think I am going to go slightly different than the original interior plan. I also think I am going to carpet the sides and all instead of the vinyl material it originally had.

Well hopefully this weekend I can get something done. I got caught up working on Harleys instead. Well worth is just not getting any progress done on the boat.
