I hooked up the radio to the switch.. the switch is the kind with a fuse right next to it tied into the circuit.. the radio also has a fuse.. both are good. when i turn the radio on the light on the switch goes off and the other two above it go on (like they would be if i switched them on) but nothing on the screen of the radio comes up .. what am i doing wrong

Re: new radio trouble..

wiring to the switch is wrong. Lighted switches generally have three terminals. If you look carefully at the switch, one of those terminals may have a ground symbol next to it. That needs to go to ground. The only purpose for that terminal is to provide a ground path for the indicator light. Nothing else must be connected there. With indicator style switches, connections to the line (+12 volt input) and load (+12 volt output) can be reversed and the circuit will work but the indicator will be on with switch in the off position. If that's happening, then reverse those two connections.

Lastly, why do feel you need a separate switch for the radio since the radio already has a power switch? Try wiring the readio directly to +12 volts and ground to see if it works. You may be chasing a ghost.
