I would tend to suggest mounting the motor higher a foil will resolve most of this issue but it will also drll holes in your new engine try mounting higer and see
RDM,

Wow, great info. I just bought a 2003 Stingray 180LS and I have the exact same problem you talked about, porpoised at anything over plane when I tried to trim. Really annoying. I have looked at the trim tab site but am reluctant to drill holes in the boat. Maybe it is time to take the plung if I want a better handling boat.

Gunny
My dealer is taking my boat to the big lake today.
They told me this is not an uncommon problem. I guess they are right about that. I printed out the info on the trim tabs and I am wondering how much drag they cause. Probbly not as much as a boat in negative trim. they are going to change props from a 14x17 to a 14x19 and i am not really
sure what this is going to do for me. Im beginning to see that porpoising is common on several brands of boats with different hull designs.I will post results tonight. Dan
UPDATE,

Got my boat back from the dealer yesterday and I took it to the lake today. The problem I had with Porpoising is gone.I can now adjust my trim
up enough to plane the boat out and man is it sweet.

I checked the service ticket and fouund they have changed the prop They told me they may try a 14x19 prop but my boat has a 14x22 prop on it now.

On the service order it stated the 14x19 would still hit the rev limits. they installed a 14x22
and when I checked the tach I reach 5500 at 54mph. I did notice a difference on the bottom end but It still gets on plane pretty good but dont take off like a rocket.

Saw a guy with the same boat I have and he has a Merc 2 stroke 90 on his. Noticed He had a Hydofoil. Well THanks to all for the advice Lonewolf Let me know how yours works out. Thanks to all Dan.
Dan, you ae lucky, I tried a 4 blade prop, then a hydro foil, (a cheapie one , though), then finally had good results with the tabs. Nice to hear your good results. rdm.
Dan:Great news that your problem was solved,I am going out on monday early in the morning for the second hour break in and see now if my prop is correct size and pitch With less weight on board will see how fast she comes up on plane also what the RPM are at WOT Prop size now is 13 1/4x 17 will keep you posted
Dan:did you get the wash down system to work and if so what do you have to purchase to make this system work? That is one of the draw backs in buying a boat out of state it nice to have the dealer close when you have a problem. For me the saving going out of state was around $5,000.00 .Here on long island the boat would of cost near $20,000.00 for the same set up .The dealer I pick up the boat from in va. name is ed's superstore can't say anything bad about this guy his service was excellent as far as the boat it was in mint condition .Dan do you do any salt water fishing down by you in n.c.?
lonewolf,

THe washdown pump was an option I did not get on my boat. You got a geat deal. Its a lot of boat for the money. My boat came in close to 19K due to the 140 4 stroke Canvas top tolling motor ect.
Got rebates on boat motor and dealer included an Aluminum trailer and 6 year warrenty on motor.

They sold my trade in for what i was asking and
they do have a good service dep. I hope yours
works out for you. Keep me posted. I am about
2.5 hrs from the beach. I havent tried salt water fishing yet but several of the guys at work have with boats smaller than mine. I plan to try it soon. I bought an Eagle 320 depth finder with the GPS combo for salt water but I still have to get a VHF radio.
On the washdown pump Cabels sell it for $85 thats less than the optional price. Its on my list Thanks Dan.
Dan: Was out to day not the best day to be on the water winds up to 20 mph seas up in the bay 2 to 3 feet. The sea pro handle great, got up on plane at 3300 rpm speed in about 25 mph.no water over the bow slice the white caps really nice .I ran it for 50 min. at speeds in about 4000 rpm and lower then wot at 5100 rpm and speed around 36 mph.I could of done a little better in speed and rpm if the wind would of calm down.Man everything turn out great and I am really happy I made this decision to purchase this boat. The 90hp yamaha is more than enough for me and the wife .
