1) My boat is an 18 ft Scout with a Yamaha 130 HP outboard engine. But I think that the top 2 engine bracket bolts have broken. They look like they severed right at the bolts. Are they all like this?

2) I have OCD so my Stainless steel needs to be so clean that I want to see my reflection in it. Right now, it has a nasty brown blotchy tint to it. Whats best to use to clean it? Some chemical solvent? Or a nice wire brush on a Dremel?

what makes you think they are broken, can your turn them. get over the tarnished bolts. thats the way they look, they have a yellowish tint to them. there not chrome. although, i'm sure you could have them plated. or if they bother you that bad, buy some touch up paint for the engine, and paint to match.

Ah misunderstanding here. The stainless steal on the seats and what not. It looks very nasty and is an eye sore. NOT on the engine. The hand rails and stuff around the CC too.

Welcome to iboats.

Why do you think the bolts are sheared on the motor bracket?

1) This is a picture of the bolt that I think is snapped. As you can see its very close to the 2 bolts.

2) This is the lower bolt thats longer and looks like I think it should.

3) These are the two bolts above and below each other.

Just so theres no confusion. Its a 2001 (or is it a 2000...not sure) Yamaha 130 HP 2-stroke, mounted on the transom of a 2001 Scout Sport Fish (18'5'')

Re: New Season Clean Up - 2 Questions

the bolt in question looks as if it's sawed off flush (or maybe broke) with the nut. the part of the bolt that sticks out past the nuts does no work what so ever. it's just a bolt that is longer than needed....imho......

No, it doesn't look like there's a problem. In fact, the short bolt is probably the right length. The longer one looks like someone ran out of the proper length bolts.

The double-nutting is an OK idea, but I prefer stainless steel bolts and nylon insert stainless steel nuts. Either way is fine.

Don't worry any longer about that bolt.

So in other words it should be fine? I just dont want it to vibrate off while Im out in the bay and make some nasty stress fractures.

Your bolt looks fine. The lower bolt is just longer than it needs to be.

For the cleaning I would recommend the Star Brite products, avaliable here on iboats or your local marine discount stores. They have a product for all your cleaning needs from removing rust stains to all types of polish and waxes.

Re: New Season Clean Up - 2 Questions

Alrightt sounds good. I was just a little worried. Also, just so I dont make another thread and clutter up the forums.

1) New Spark Plugs
2) New Oil and Fuel Filters
3) New Oil/Fuel Water Seperators
4) New Impeller Water Pump

Hows that look for pre-season tune up? How hard is it to install the new impeller for the water pump. Im pretty tech savy and have my own tool chest so...

All sounds good, but you will get better advice if you post your service questions in the Yamaha repair section.
