Re: New Silent CHOICE Exhaust system!

My buddy was at the local Harley dealership 2 years ago. THAT GUY had just bought a brand new road bike. Signed the paperwork and then just sat on it in the parking lot for 5 minutes with it running. Then he gunned the motor, dropped the clutch took off at Mach 7 through the parking lot, bounced between a car and truck, shot across the access road and landed in the ditch next to the highway. His response was "@$@#$#@! Guess I'm not ready for THAT."

How many first time boaters have you witnessed something like that happening?!

Well better to do that on a heavy Harley than a crotch-rocket or other performance bike. If he had revved it and dumped the clutch it on a sport bike he would have ended up on his back before he made it out of the parking spot, lol.

I had a buddy with an air horn on his goldwing..... Much quieter than loud pipes most of the time but MUCH louder when needed.

To the best ok my knowledge he is still alive. Jus sayin

Seems fair to punish the guilty instead of the masses.

Serious cabin fever here. Dumbest post ever! Lets ask the government to seize peoples boat cause you dont like it.

Laws are in place and over enforced.

Hey there is a big billboard as you enter our town cause people dont like the airport thats been here since before any living person was born, but now that new people moved to town that just cant be tolerated. Oh and those annoying people driving on the beach years before you bought a beach house there. How rude of them not to let you change the whole world around you because you bought a sliver near by.

If the dr cant sleep because he lives next to the water, airport, racetrack, train or beach he should move.

soooo ur sayin that if the boaters can't survive the bullets that the mountain man shoots across the river because his grand dad, dad, he, and his son have shot across the river since befor the boater was born then the boater should go elsewhere? OR if your little 16' baha gets swamped by the wake of someone's 40' cruiser then you should go elsewhere?

Same sort of logic.... all wrong...... maybe the house on the water was there before the river was dammed to be deep enough to navigate... does that suddenly mean since he was there first he makes all the rules? Of course not.... Un-muffled exhaust on watercraft is already illegal in most places..... This thread was just a fun way to draw attention to it and break the monotony..... No need to start name calling...... It's VERY possible to disagree and still get along.

Of course it would be crappy to see people losing their boats, but the illustration was that if everyone knew that if they ran their illegal machines that there was a mandatory extreme penalty, they would for the most part stop doing it and obey the laws in place....

I personally don't mind a little rumble as long as it's someone else' boat but the 1' long straight run out the back with no silencer or muffler is excessive and rude.

That may be a perfectly reasonable request if they feel it is unsafe to boat in a smaller vessel amongst larger ones. Making every bigger run at idle because someone in a 16' boat doesn't like the waves is ridiculous unless they are operating the vessel in a no wake zone while creating a wake. Plenty of lakes that are too small/impractical to transport a large vessel to which the owner of the 16'er could transport to.

So what about all the guys with the Cigarettes/Outer Limits/etc boats? They come from the factory without mufflers/etc on twin/triple 700HP engines. Are you saying that someone shouldn't be able to own/operate one simply because YOU find it rude and excessive? What about wakeboard-style boats who run around creating large wakes while people are fishing/floating? Should they only be able to make large wakes if no one is in sight?

My point is simply that what is "excessive and rude" is going to vary from boater-to-boater. I believe the main issue is not lack of laws/enforcement, but more likely a lack of consideration. The guy with the large boat can take consideration by trying to avoid small boats (if practicable) that might be nearby. The small boater can avoid putting themselves in precarious situations when it can likely be avoided. The wakeboarders (and others) can try and pick spots/times that will stay as far away from those who would be affected by their waves. The guys with the 1' of unmuffled big-block piping with no mufflers can try and be a expeditious as possible when starting their engines and exiting the poor Dr's area so as to limit the exposure to the noise.

We don't need more laws, just people being considerate and using better judgement with regard to how their actions affect others.

ABSOLUTELY agree 100% .... pretty much my point! The REAL problem is that a large percentage couldn't care less who the bother..... If you haven't picked up the sarcasm in this thread I'm pointing it out now.....

I SERIOUSLY doubt that someone dropping half a million or better on a gofast boat CAN'T get it with a muffler BTW

6754 posts in just over 4 years..... Maybe noise is just a matter of perspective

I don't know what ur talking about.... I don't think you do either.........

Of course noise is a matter of perspective.... so is speed, high or low post count, intelligence, and just about everything else existence that can be measured.

I picked up the sarcasm, I think we both agree on the fact that a lot of people these days don't care how their actions affect other people. I was just making a point that legislating anything would be a nightmare and is the LAST thing you want. When boating ends up being anything like flying (FAA) we're all doomed, lol.

The whole point of buying a go-fast boat is to be able to use every pony you paid for from the engines. I highly doubt that any muffler they stuck on one would make a noticeable dent in the volume anyway. Tough to curtail 1400HP without restricting it!

You'd be surprised. These things, with mufflers, are very common at Havasu. The large tips are on Everything big. Here's a DCB F32 with 1200 hp each and it may not be as loud as my 6.2 uncorked.

That DCB sounded pretty loud to me. It even sounded a bit "subdued" due to the camera/microphone. I see them frequently around Texhoma, Grand, and LOTR here in the south-central US region and if they are muffled, it isn't doing a lot of good. However, I rarely see them loitering around the docks or shoreline where it affects people. They're usually screaming down the lake or hanging out at the party coves without the engines running.

I hear them often, and still think the muffled ones are quieter at idle than a stock small or big block uncorked. I agree the video seems misleading, but I posted it anyway as that is kind of what they sound like.

Re: New Silent CHOICE Exhaust system!

either way the whole point is to do what you reasonably can not to disrupt people around you... even if they only drop a few decibels that's better than someone running straight pipes out the back of their 40 mph bowrider and gaining absolutely nothing except noise.

Jet aircraft are loud because they have to be and they ONLY land n take off at the airports...... There's a guy here local that has unmuffled trhu hull exhaust on a 45'(?) houseboat.... he regularly runs nearly wot even after dark at a scorching 15-18 mph... you can hear him for 15 minutes before you can see him, 15 minutes while you see him, and 20 minutes after he's gone.... It's loud enough that you commonly see people put fingers in their ears as he passes. Almost an hour of listening to that noise would get almost anyone irritated.....

He's gotta be burning $500 in gas each trip and I generally see/hear him go by twice about any nice weekend I'm out but he can't spend a few hundred to ease up on the rest of us.

No disagreement here. I simply meant that a Cigarette pumping out 95db of sound, and one with a muffler putting out 90db of sound is still going make someone irritated. I don't care if the 50mph runabout has thru-hulls on his 350, but chances are he's going to be out of the area within a minute or two, and not at full till moving at 15mph like the houseboat, lol. Some of the smaller lakes I'm on feature plenty of 19-22' V-drive and Jet boat guys with the BBC/BBF setups with headers over the transom. Obviously it makes a racket, but no one really complains too much because they are usually gone in a matter of seconds after they fire it up. It's expensive for them to just let the engine make noise in one place, lol.

Mufflers are quieter then straight, especially on Big Blocks, and work well on SB. I have them on my BB
