Hi all,
My buddy just bought a new 2008 16' Lund Jon Boat, aluminum with the floor option installed. It weighs around 460 lbs. He wants to use it mostly for fishing lakes and rivers, but occasionally put it out on a very nice day into central/south Puget Sound, a highly protected but very large salt water body with plenty of current etc.
He's wondering what would be the smallest new motor to put on this boat that would work for this kind of activity. 10hp? 25hp?
This is a modified V hull. He is trying to avoid the bouncing around that occurs when your motor is too big or too strong for your boat. He just wants to get from point A to point B reliably and safely.
He also wants to avoid purchasing another motor for a long time. I had thought that Hondas were the most reliable brand out there, but what do you all think? He's found a new 9.9hp Suzuki for around 2500 but I thought Suzukis were not that common and also had not heard much on their reliability. What about small Yamahas?
