New sound system

My '08 pontoon boat has a damaged stereo. The speakers and wiring are fine but the deck is trashed. The boat will be in freshwater only and not enough chop to get water on the deck. Do I need to get a marine grade unit, or will an automotive unit with a cover be OK? It's a 20' Regency. What power output rating should I be looking at?

In freshwater, with a splash cover, a automotive unit should be fine, for atleast several years.

Do you use and iPod? If so the Alpine units with the iPod integration are fantastic.
