Re: new spring project moving dreams of a tinny

Sure looks like a spittin image of jasoutside's 15' Jet Star to me:)

Nice rig, fairly flat-bottom at the stern and light hull.

That motor is probably electric shift, so I wouldn't put too much cash into it. If it can be run as is or with a little tune-up that would be great.

Great project to start on. If motor has ran for 40 plus years must be ok. Clean it -tune it -use it. Good luck. Pugetsound

Looks OK but one small pic can be deceiving. In person look will tell a lot. Price looks fair if as described but start lower, who knows where you will wind up? Good luck.

Thanks FOr looking Angler, goodadvice as usual. ANy easy way to diven if it is indeed Electric shift. From what I've heard, they can be a bear.
Yeah shallow water in parts of the swamp down here in NC, and this year we even have a little frozen edges in the water, this is the Pamlico river and it's salty as all get out in the summer...

Im sorry guys and I am not rich. However There are a lot of hard off people selling boats back East. Every one wants to talk them down to even lower prices that are way below a fair price. Put your self in the sellers shoes. There I feel better now. Sorry to ***** but now I'm normal again. Tight lines seaons a comeing. Pugetsound.

Yah, I am with my buddy Huron up there - if it's 15' I am thinking Jet Star. Have fun!

Rich, everything considered (and I read the post thrice) I would offer $550.00 and see what he says. You will need to replace the transom, the floors are gone or he would mount the seats himself. Electric shift motors are outdated and hard to find parts (if not impossible). It is a great boat and worthy of rebuilding, but it will take a little time and money. Good Luck

Not electric shift. That's a good motor. I think there is even decent parts support for it.

Thanks Guys, Waiting to hear back I'll post what happens. AS far as being hard up for $$$, who isn't these days?
Good point fshngo, why would the seats not be bolted down unless... I already did the floor and some stringer repair (I still need to get my resto thread up here) on my Bahama, so Not too scared about that, transom, that's a little unerving.
If you screw up the floor worst case scenario, you fall through again, you screw up the transom and by by motor?

My mistake...apparently the 40hp were electric shift in '68 but not the 33hp.

Puget, my girlfriend says the same thing. We talk about offering 1/2 the price sometimes but folks do get offended if they feel the asking price is fair to begin with.

What you offer isn't nearly important as how you make the offer. Never had a seller offended by an offer I have made.

Cheers!

If the 1968 transom is anything like my 64, it's a piece of cake to replace, especially if even I could do it!

As far as your offer, if it's reasonable and done in a good way, what's to offend someone? If I sense someone's offended by my offer, I just tell them I didn't think it could hurt to ask. Anyone who lists something at a completely inflexible price either really knows what they have, or more likely knows very little about what they're selling and thinks it's worth a lot more than it is.

OK got out voted but still my opinion. I think the boat its self is well worth saveing and will be a good one. Make a nice lake or river boat. Pugetsound

So how do you make the offer. I'm a bit too direct, a pragmatist.

"Hey buddy hows it going, nice snagletooth hound ya got there. YOU WILL SELL ME THE STARCRAFT FOR $300." See it just doesn't work for me.

This is always a good opening line. Just be sure that it's not one of the sellers kids running around the yard though. That sort of confusion never helps the deal:eek::eek:
