I bought a new marine starter for my 4.3 and it doesnt fit. Motor is a 89 and I bought a large body motor starter for mid 80s to 92 is what it says. Is it possible I need smaller starter. It doesnt set all the way against flywheel cover. Misses bolt holes by 1/4 or so. Will the newer mini starters with 11 teeth work?

Ayuh,.... Where's it/ What's hittin', Where,..??
What kinda starter did ya take Off the motor,..??

The motor size is pretty much irrelevant, as if the nose cone fits, the rest of the starter will also fit....

Re: New starter not fitting

The starter doesnt want to in all the way. cant tell where it hitting because its somewhere on the inside. Either hitting plate or nose cone. The starter needs to go towards the stern and center to fit and it wont. Starter that came off was a truck starter with a smaller nose cone. The newer model starter looks like it will fit but im not sure if the 11 tooth will work in place of the nine thats supposed to fit my year
