I just had the entire ignition replaced on my 95 75hp Merc. New stator, trigger, switch box, etc. The mechanic left two installation manuals in with my old parts , that apparently came with the stator kit. One manual is for the sport jet 90,Force 40/50/70/90 HP. The second manual says Mercury/Mariner 45 jet/50/60/65 jet 70/75/80/90 electric, which is the specific manual for my motor. Now , the first manual has a warning ,the new red stator should not be run with the old regulator and when changing stator, install new design regulator or electrical damage may occur. There is no warning like this in the manual that covers my motor , although I did replace the regulator this year but with a Sierra and not Mercury part. I'm going to assume i will be okay and not cause all my new parts to fry ,but wanted to get some opinions...

Re: New stator question

If your aftermarket part is a regulator and not a rectifier it will be fine

Re: New stator question

I just ordered a new stator for my 84 90Hp Merc. Will I have to change/upgrade parts too (like my rectifier)?
