This is going to be a long one but, by the end it will cover what had happened and what is happing now. Ok, my buddy to my boat out and got about a mile down the river and the boat shut down he tried to get it started again and nothing. So, I brought it home and noticed the rod linkage was hanging down the the plastic ball joint broke so I bought a new one. I put the new joint on and nothing still so, I took it to the shop the man told me that there was an electrical issue could be stator, pack etc. So, my dad said lets just get it all so, I did not to bad of a price either we bought the power pack, stator coil, trigger and coils for 116 shipped.
Present time we replaced all the parts today and it fired off a very time but would not run for very long before it would crap out. Checked the new stator and we had .587ohm on it and then guess what it has no spark again. We messed with it for a while and I happened to look on the ground and seen the stator coil washer on the ground. When we got the stator today we did not know which side that washer was supposed to go on, the front of the stator or behind. Well be put it in front and it was slug out from under the flywheel. This is going to be the best part I checked the stator again and yeb, the coil is now open and the motor will not fire.
My questions are:
1. What will make a new stator just go bad? I know that washer needed to go somewhere but, did not know becuse the oem was incased in plastic and the CDI one was just the coil.
2. I am going to buy another stator and take it to the shop to have somebody who knows what they are doing work on it. Good or bad?
3. Since we replaced all electical components is there anything else we can troubleshoot?
4. Could timing cause the issue with it crapping out when trying to run?
5. Not, having the right tools to line up the coil and trigger cause motor to run funny?
Any suggestions would be great. One it was running it was strong and ran great and I don't mind pay a few bucks to get it back up and running. I think that taking it to a boat guy and having them tune the cabs just the timing and replace the stator is going to be a smarter idea then us tring it again.
Thanks
Wade
