Hi Guys,
I am in the process of repowering my 1994 Silverton Sedan and am replacing the 2 original V8 305 190hp engines with two new 305 MPI's. I have been told they will be "drop ins", but also been told that I will need a new steering actuator and don't understand why ? Can anyone shed any light as to why I would need this? the old steering actuator works perfectly fine.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Why don't you just ask the ones that told you that? Personally, I can't answer cause I don't have a clue what you have! Mercriser, Volvo. Is this an IO or Inboard. This steering actuator, is it the power steering cylinder on the outdrive, or a cylinder operating a rudder for inboards.

Ayuh,.....

If by Chance we're talking about Mercruiser Drives,.....

The Steering Actuators Changed,+ your New P/S Lines Won't screw into your Old Actuator......

Re: New Steering Actuator

Apologies, I thought this was a Mercruiser forum and did not realize that it covered Volvos to.. Engines are dual Mercruiser I/O?s and the power steering actuator is controlled of just one engine. I did ask why I needed a new actuator and was told that the existing one was incompatible with the new engines, with no further details as to why. I was hoping that someone on the forum had the same experience and knew of a way to us existing actuator, with new fittings, adapters etc..

Ayuh,.....

I did it by cutting off the ends of the lines, at the actuator,+ brazing on the bigger lines, with the Right Fittings....

Re: New Steering Actuator

Hi Guys, Thanks for the responses. I checked out the steering actuator this weekend and the most I will need are two adaptors as the actuator that is currently in the boat is the "newer" type.
