Hello, I have an 1965 AlumaCraft Bel Mara with a '65 Johnson Sea Horse 60hp. It still has the original pulley cable steering system. The cable drum is worn and has a lot of slop to it. My question is how hard is it to change to a rotary cable system and what all is involved in it? Also, about how much would the change cost? Can a new cable drum be found if I wanted to just stay with the pulley system? Would anyone have a used drum that is in good working condition that they would want to sell? Thanks

I have made this conversion. No big deal at all. You can find a complete rotary system here for $120: http://www.lowcostboatingstore.com/Uflex-ROTECH-Kits_c_226.html even comes with a wheel! Your motor most likely does not have a tilt tube to connect the steering too, so you'll have to purchase a clamp block to mount it to: http://www.iboats.com/Corrosion-Res...3432232--**********.542512450--view_id.192758 (maybe you can find a used one on ebay or something)

Yep. They are surprisingly mostly universal.
