New stereo system vs. powered speakers for the iPhone?

My auto stereo on the boat died finally.
I am considering these options- replacing the stereo system with a marine unit vs. buying a powered speaker suitable for use with the iPhone. Most of my music these days is on my iPhone and if I buy a powered speaker I would use it on my deck at home and just bring it to the boat.
Any thoughts?

Look at the Clarion M502
It allows you to use you Iphone via bluetooth
or you can just plug it into the unit and it will charge and play
No moving parts
I have found them on line for 160

Go and buy a clarion head unit 4 component speakers at least 6.5 inch and a 10 inch sub along with a 5 channel amp. If you have any knwoledge of installing this stuff, do it yourself. 12-1400 bucks and you have yourself a solid system.

I wanted to try the powered speakers with the iPhone so I could use it at home too on the deck :)
I went with the Logitech unit, $99 at Amazon.com
The sound inside the house is amazing for such a small unit, think a small sized boom box but no comparison to the sound quality.
Outside on the deck and in the boat it will work fine for my needs. The instructions report 6-8 hrs of battery life continually playing but we will see about that. If the battery time isn't up to par, I will just use it on the deck, plugged in to AC power.

Why not just buy a cheap marine amp, hook it up to your existing speakers then get a headphone jack to rca converter and plug that into the amp. If you decide to replace the stereo in the future you just hook the stereo to the amp and your all set.

Great idea! The amps are cheap enough and will suit my needs. I plan to sell this boat at the end of the summer so I don't want to spend much money on this. The new owner just has to add his own head unit later. Thanks.

If all it has to do is get you through the summer I'm pretty sure you can get a pyle for well under $100.
