I haven't posted in a long time, cause I got past the newbie questions pretty quickly. I had my wife and son out on the Astro 1852SF last Sunday, and it died on us. we had to get towed back to the ramp (about 5 miles) by some kids. It really upset the wife, and it did get me to thinking about things. With my spinal stenosis and neuropathy, I'm not really able to work on the boat much anymore, and I'm definitely not in shape to be rowing it back to the ramp, so I started looking at new boats this week. I need something a bit more dependable with a warranty. Plus, since we started tubing/kneeboarding, I really wanted a inboard.

I just traded my 2000 Astro 1852SF for a 2008 Stingray 185LX. The dealer gave me $8,000 for my boat, which we gave $7000 last September. I gave him $19,000 for his, minus the trade difference. It's got a 3.0/135hp Volvo, and the "sport" package (not sure of the exact name) with the sun deck, convertible cover (short bimini), and snap down bow and cockpit covers. Did I get a pretty good deal, and is there anything I need to know about this boat? I pick it up in less than 2 hours.

Re: New Stingray

well, "new" is the right choice for some folks so it sounds like you're all set!

That's a pretty small interior so i hope you only have a few passengers normally. Stingrays are one of the few 18' boats I'd ever consider w/ the 3.0L - they move along fine with it.

I'm guessing it's a rougher ride than the boat you traded in, but faster and more fun - well for the kids anyhow, not sure about your wife.........

Re: New Stingray

I've had her out twice now, and I have to say that I am in love! It is 100% better in every way than the old Astro. It rides better, is more economical, is quieter, steers more responsively, and looks whole lot better. I only have about 3.5 hours on her, though. The break in hours are killing me. I want to be able to open her up and run her for a while, but I have to wait a few more hours before I can do that. Oh well, here's a few pics for anyone interested:
