I guess it will always be something and it usually goes back to poor judgment from the operator.
The big problem in the area I grew up was prop scars on the flats. They were most often cause by the rental boat fleets and people not knowing what they were doing. There was a boat rental place in my fishing grounds that was a great source of entertainment for us. When they came into the ICW you had to go left or right or you would end up on the flats. We used to bet on which boats were going to come to a halt real quick. All the info they needed was clearly explained and also in the info guide they received before they left the dock they just didn’t bother to pay attention to anyone or there surroundings.

Wake boats are lake lice...no reasonable person likes them. Adding to the problem is 99.7% of the owners are just douche bags, who feel they somehow are ENTITLED to make dock destroying, fishing boat upsetting, shore eroding passes, because they dropped $300K or more and by God are going to use it!

Last summer I watched some guys beat the living dog chit out of two people operating a wake boat with full ballast, driving in 'X' patterns across a narrow part of the lake where these guys were trying to waterski (there's a slalom course bouyed there). The mistake the wake boat made was they were drunk enough to think it was wise to stop and argue with the skiers, lol! It really was a beautiful thing, with several people sounding their horns and clapping as the wake boat slunk off.

Haven't noticed any wakeboat Captains on here trying to defend their "Sport". Not one. This is their own forum, too. Reminds me of the "coal rollers" on some diesel truck forums......they were despised by most, although the EPA has clamped down on them pretty hard recently, including the ones selling the "tunes". Huge fines and penalties have pretty much stopped that nonsense. Maybe that will happen here, too. (y)
