I have a 1978 alpha 1 outdrive and was wondering if I should use the new style exuast bellows which is suppose to relieve back pressure at idle or just use the original bellows for it? When I look them up they say for 1983-up but my manual shows them and don't say you can't use them on older drives. anyone???

Re: new style exuast bellows??

There is no "NEW" bellows that relieves back pressure at idle.
Merc does have an exhaust tube to replace the bellows. Those were used on the higher horse power fuel injected engines to relieve some pressure at the higher rpms (4800 t0 5000 rpm).
The older drives like you have are a Merc 1 drive. (Merc One drive) shouldn't need them. They wouldn't hold up to that HP anyway.
Stick with what you have.

I was just wondering if is better than the regular one because my Seloc manual shows pictures of the old and the new "improved" one they call it in the manual.

Did your aftermarket Seloc manual happen to mention if that tube would fit on a one drive?
