New switch assembly won't work

I just repleced the switch assembly for my 1997 Mercury Bigfoot. The throttle is a QuickSilver. The wiring was pretty basic but when I turn the key I get the beep and thennothing - dead - engine doesn't do a thing. I then put the old assembly back in (it worked, just not well) and got the same result. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Janet, So the motor down't crank on the starter? Have you checked the neutral safety switch in the Quicksilver control? if that isn't working properly, there will be no power to the starter solenoid from the key switch. The wire from the key switch to the neutral safety switch and then to the starter solenoid will be yellow/red.
