Going through the same thing with mine. My boat had the original on it and I noticed that there is a rebuild kit for it. TR 208. If it is original it was most likely made by Prestolite who was bought by Arco. The ARC pn for mine was 6208.

Ebay is your best bet. They do make after market TnT units but they are expensive.
Expect to pay about 250 or so for a used one on Ebay.

Gary, I wish you were right. His motor uses the older style (pre-1978) trim unit. They are near impossible to find and when they show up on eBay they go for $400+!!!! I have been looking for over 2 years. However, I don't have TnT at all. Since he has the unit, he probably has a good chance of finding someone that will rebuild it.

I had a similar problem with my Calco unit (part are rare and expensive) and I found a guy who has a patented adapter that allows the use of a new design, high-efficiency (and way cheaper) motor, like the ARCO 6206 I bought for $100, with the Calco and Prestolite units. It's an aluminum adapter plate with a steel shaft. Absolutely brilliant. I bought a Calco adapter, and it works flawlessly. I attached a couple of pics below. The adapter is the green-painted section. The guy can be reached at calcoguy@yahoo.com, and he sells the Calco units for $120. If you add the $120 for the adpater and the cost of the motor, it's still less than half what a rebuilt motor costs, and if you need to replace a motor later, it's cheap. Anyway, here are a couple of pics of the Calco unit I bought.

I forgot to say that from the sounds of your post (pre-1978), you have a Calco tilt/trim unit.
