I NEED TO REPLACE THE TIRES ON MY TRUCK, THIS IS THE TRUCK THAT I PULL MY BOAT WITH. IT IS A '03 CHEV 2500 HD. I am running ten-ply tires, last time the tire dude recommended them because of the weight of my boat 6,400 lbs., dry.

These are a little expensive to replace, and was considering dropping to an 8-ply tire, Toyo something AT or a Cooper something AT. I can save over $200 to $250 clams if I drop down. Any help from you guys will help.

Spud

Re: NEW TIRES--HELP

Multi ply tires are better suited for puncture resistance than load handling (as far as I know). Any load-rated tire that would come on that truck stock will be more than adequate. Up in Maine where I hunt they are big on the 6-ply and thicker tires becuase of the 100's of miles of dirt road up there, someone is always poking a pointy rock through a tire up there.

I have never paid attention to the ply, just load rating. I have had good luck with cooper tires and think they are a great tire for the money. Look good, plus made in the USA.

I would suggest staying with the proper load rating for the 3/4 ton....any brand will work as long as they are rated for the 3/4 ton truck.

Do not put yourself in jeopardy by putting the wrong load rating tires on.

Bob

It really doesnt matter how much you boat wieghs, unless you are hauling it in the back of your truck. Which I doubt!! Tonge weight is all that matters. The tires designed for your truck are fine. The only thing I might think abought would be side wall play, which would be stiffer with an 8 ply. If I towed accross county all the time, I might go for the more expensive tire, if you are just going a few miles to the ramp, your stock tires would be fine.

Copper tires have a softter compound making them stick better but less wear capibility the more the ply the better the durability for rough terrain Goodyear has some real good ones

There's No Sense in buying tires that are Weight Rated Higher than your Truck..........
I Bet your "Tire Dude" was working on a commission.............

I've run Bridgestones, Dunlops,+ Others....
There's a set of Generals out on the Battlewagon right now, LT235/85R/16E...........

That was the tire(size/rated) that Ford put on the truck,+ They rated it at 8800lbs......

As noted above, it's the Rating, not the plys that Matter.................
It sounds like you're in the market for "E" rated tires..............
because of the weight of my boat 6,400 lbs., dry.
How Do you get That Much Boat in an 8' Bed..???... :D

Good Luck,...........And, Keep Your Money............. ;)
