hello all, a few weeks ago i bought a 1971 sea star, never seen it in the water been setting for 2 years, so got it home , got it running ( still needing alil motor work) , steering was stuck, so got that working, so heres whats left, ( other than the motor) need to repair the floor, its not to bad just weak in spots, so should i replace it or just cover the biggest part of the weak spots? the next ? is i was workin on the wiring of the lights today and it has a pull switch, now is the green and red lights on front and the one rear clear , suppose to be on a circut that u can run just run the green and red light and a different circut for the rear, or is it when u turn them on they all are on? also it has alil push button, which i thought was a horn button but after looking at the wiring it went to the lights? hmmm not sure about that one, also on the side there are little J hooks like 6 per side and i noticed that they are kinda loose so u think i sould just take them out and fiberglass over them or silicone around them?and just one more ? :eek:there is no bulge pumps in it, but torward the drain there is 2 hole one on either side, of the drain , on the inside of the boat on the floor, im guessing thats where a bulge pump would go but do u place the bulge pump under the floor? or right in between the 2 holes? sorry this is so long, il probably have more ?S since im a newbie:D thanks for all the help

Re: New to boating and needin some info

what i do with the lights now is 2 switches, one for bow light(R/G) one for stern light. the reason when under way,at night, both are suppose to be on. when anchored, or just drifting, the white stern light only. have no idea what the push button is for, the 2 holes are drains for under the floor, they make little rubber plugs to put in there, when running. this ineffect gives you the double hull, if you happen to knock a hole in the outer. the bilge pump goes between the holes, in front of the transom drain. the drain line for the bilge pump should come out the drivers side, right under the rub rail. this way when it comes on the driver can see how much water is coming out, and know the conditions of the boat. as far as the floor is concerned, do it right the first time, and you may have to replace some stringers. here's an electrical diagram. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=186986

seastar. i'd be checkin into the floor part first. assumin ya have an i/o. the engine mounts to the stringers generally. if their rotton, all the other stuff won't matter. look at yer drain hole out the back of yer boat. see if it has a brown stain runnin out the hole. if so. that'd be rot juice. a sign of rotted wood. i had to do a test drill hole on my ol boat to find out my bad news. my test hole started small. drill bit pulled out wet sawdust. a hole saw was next. more wet wood found. a circular saw reveled i had mush for stringers. my problem all started over not being able to torque down front motor mount bolts. for me, there is nothing left for me to do other than full restore of my ol boat as it's most likely unsafe to operate since it's no longer structurelay sound.......

Re: New to boating and needin some info

I have a '71 Sea Star Wildcat 15ft that I fixed up. Good solid boat.

The holes in the side of the bilge are drains from under the floor. You'll want to leave them open so any water drains into the bilge. Mine didn't have a bilge pump but it never took on any water. I just picked up a manual pump and kept it on board.

The light switch on mine is a 3 position pull switch. It is wired for off, stern light only and then bow and stern lights.

Feel free to browse my photobucket site. I have a number of photos of her that maybe of help.

There are some more here. Mostly on pages 2 & 3.
