Ok sorry if any of these problems have been answered in a previous post but I couldn't find them.

I just recently received a boat from my father that has seen better days. Short story, my dad in his infinite wisdom told me to put 16:1 in the gas tank. Well in my infinite wisdom I did what he said with out looking for the real answer.

Anyways, took the boat out and started fine with no problems, pulled out fine with no problems, and putted away from dock area with no problems.

Where the problems started was when we tried to go any faster, what it would do is just bog down and die or you had to pull it back to just barely going. If you idled the engine up with the "Idle bar" it would rev up fine but with it in gear it would just die.

I am hoping that it may just be the 16:1 ratio that is causing it to bog down under a load. It did act like it would want to go on occasion but then it would quickly bog back down. Also I would get that buzzer on occasion which could be fuel or overheating correct?

I know I need to get a manual and that is deffinately in the works but until then any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Is it cooling ??? Is the pee hole pushing water out ???? I am not certain what the ratio is but I guess 50:1. Someone that knows will be along shortly to confirm. Sounds like it is giving up under load. What buzzer did you get ??? What RPM will it pull and what boat is it on with what prop ???? Could be a multitude of things but need to start somewhere.
By the way. Welcome to iboats. Many experts out here that will get you sorted out.

Yes the pee hole is pushing water out. I don't know what buzzer it was, I was hoping someone here would know. :D Its coming from the throttle handle assembly thats the best I can do, oh and its constant. Don't know the RPM because thats broke to I found out.

I don't really know much about boats but I know its on a Kingfisher bass/ski boat and not sure what prop it is but I know in the past when it ran better the engine/prop combo had no problems with the boat. Its really too small of a boat a for the engine thats on it.

On the 79's the buzzer was for overheats only, so one or both of the head temp sensors thinks it is getting hot-over 212 degrees. Pay attention to this, as these temps are hot, for an outboard. I would take both thermostat housings a part, check the pressure relief valves and replace both thermostats. Check to be sure you have good, hot spark on all 6 cylinders. A timing light should confirm this. You may have a fuel issue. If the engine was not winterized when last put away, the carbs may need cleaning/overhaul. Does the engine run better if someone constantly squeezes the fuel primer bulb while running? Also possible you may have one (or both) weak fuel pumps. The engine oil ratio is 50/1, not 16/1. Other than smoking a lot, short-term over-oiling is probably not any cause for your problems. I would also check the compression on all 6 cyls, so you know the condition of the engine.

If it has run at 16:1 for a while then it would also be wise to do a good decarbing.
