Re: New to boats and fishing! Michigan Gal learning

And I have a great job, my own home, all my teeth and hair!! LOL.
Not to mention a cool Ford truck! ;+)

But unfortunately, yes I'm single.

Thus the name of my new found hobby/boat! "My Buoy Toy"

shenanigans, such a mythical creature does not exist in our reality! :p

yes I'm single.

Post a pic of you and your new boat, with an APPROXIMATE location of where you are in the state, and I'm sure you'll have a number of seasoned fisherpersons volunteering and lining up to you 'help you' learn more. :D

Not me, btw, I'm married and in Florida.

Also, please be careful when going out in your boat alone- I avoid it like the plague. There are too many small incidents or accidents that can get serious when you're by yourself.

They are having a "Pontoon Party" at the private lake I go to this Saturday - I am calling it the "Redneck Yacht Club" :D

Would love to go and a number of them have asked me to - depends on weather and work of course.... But these people really are nice and I guess they tie all the pontoons together have food and drinks and just have fun... Good way to get to know everyone there. It is an elderly community but just amazing how friendly they are to a "new outsider" who is alot younger than most in their community.

A Houseboat would be sweet but gotta work so guess I will wait on that for a few years!! *chuckle*

I will work on that picture thing here in a bit....Would be more fun definitely with some good company on the boat... and I could go other places besides this private lake if I had someone along... and I am not afraid to drive a little ways for a nice location to spend time on the boat!

Re: New to boats and fishing! Michigan Gal learning

I am cautious when I go out alone - I make sure someone on shore who resides at this private lake knows I am out there(they are like a big family there - actually they see my truck pull in and alot of them come outside to say hi and see how long I plan on being out etc...) I have a couple of their cell/phone #'s just in case... and again it is a pretty small lake with island in center and I should be able to swim to shore or the island at any point of this lake even if I am not a phenomenal swimmer....

But I wont go out anywhere else alone - TRUST ME!

But I must say I now know why they say a boat is a whole in the water that sucks down money... LOL I pulled plugs (parts place couldnt cross reference the dorks!) last night and a plug wire so I could get knew and give the poor girl a tune up before the weekend hits and plugs where ok - but DANG! The wires $160, Cap $67......... my stupid Cadillac doesnt cost that much to tune up and I dont pay labor as I do it myself!! Eeegads.... *chuckle* This is more high maintenance than a man... ;)
(Kidding guys......)

So you get bet your sweet patooties I am "googling" for discount marine parts today here at work!

iboats has very competitive prices and cheap shipping, maybe check out the store here.

Congrats on the new rig and welcome to iboats fellow Michigander:), great place for info:D

I use Mepps spinners or buzzbaits for pike, small rapalas for crappie trolling, perch rig/crawler harness for perch, bluegill and sunfish.

Sounds like you've already got it figured out and caught some fish, nice work;)

Re: New to boats and fishing! Michigan Gal learning

I have started to take my boat out into Tampa Bay by myself.

A couple of things that I have always done, to make me feel a little safer & hope that it helps me to get back home.

I wear my life jacket all of times. I have an inflatable type so it isn?t so intrusive. Even though I have had people laugh at me when I put it on while still on the dock.

I use the lanyard on the kill switch and if I am moving around the boat, I shut down the motor first. I am not a strong swimmer and don?t want to have to chase the boat if I do a header off of it.

Just a couple of ideas for you, but then I am a paranoid sob.

Better paranoid than fish bait!! LOL I always shut the boat off before I move around the boat.

I will be hitting a tackle shop hopefully this week while on the road - need to get some of the Rapalas. I was feeding them worms like it was a feeding frenzy! LOL

The little ones literally where biting at them when I rinsed off a worm over the edge of the boat... LOL

Tampa Bay - lucky dog.... I dont like ice fishing - to darn cold for me!! LOL So I will only get to fish a few months here in Michigan.

phwrd,
Just remember about the bay in the afternoon this time of year. Was over by the pier on the St. Pete side, storm came up and there were 4 to 6s real quick! Not fun...

Huron,
It takes me all of 5 seconds to resize a pic in photobucket. Click on the pic, pic comes up, scroll across the top to "resize", click on large in the drop down...done.
