New to Forum, looks very active. Have a question about a 1989 3.0 liter

Hello, new to the forum but not new to boating at all. I just purchased a fairly clean Larson DC 170, has the Mercruiser 3.0 in it. Also has the Digital Ignition system. I think it needs plug wires, have not been able to locate a set on the web ( yet lol ). Any recommendations would be helpful and, is there something really special about the plug wires....resistance wise? I ask because they seem so hard to find. Thanks for any help!

assume your looking at 18-8811, the equivalent set from Mallory is one column to the right and in stock....

Yes, I see that now. Guess I let myself get "hung up" on the Mecruiser wire set....and no one has. I'll go with the Mallory and thanks for pointing that out.

The other set was Sierra anyway, and the Mallory set was cheaper too. hope this gets you fixed up...

You can use automotive plug wires and save the marine surcharge

Thanks 180shabah, and thanks Walt. Walt, I have been looking for an automotive set....and not an easy task due to the unusually short wires on this 3.0. Would you by any chance know of an automotive style replacement? Would be nice to save some bucks for sure!

Buy a "Universal Kit" at any auto store. Make them to whatever length you want. It requires the mechanical aptitude of opening a soda can and the tools required can be found in the junk drawer in your kitchen so most anyone can do this.

Basically thats what I did, though I'm not a big fan of making up the wires, never cared for it but.....money is tight right now. Going to the lake today to see how they perform. Thanks
