Hi Guys
Rob here from Wales UK,
Whilst not new to boating I am very new to inboards!
I have just purchased a 21ft cabin fishing boat made from grp, weight is approx 2800 lbs,has a med vee planing hull, and is fitted with a 135hp 3LTR mercruiser with an alpha leg..........
I use it on the sea and its kept in a marina...
yr of manufacture boat and engine is 2000,took her out for the first time yesterday and would like your opinions on the readings from the helm guages.....
Temp approx 160 when warm, did not go higher!
Oil pressure 30/40 when warm
,was higher cold!
Volts 13 running at 3000 rpm!
Max revs 4600
Max speed shown mph on speedo and GPS 36MPH at 4600rpm
Do these seem ok to you guys, the air temp yesterday was 70degrees....
Just a couple of other points...
What should idle speed be?
How much warm up time before setting off?
Oil viscosity to be used?
Diy servicing..yes or no? (Iam quite a competent diy mechanic)
Thanks to all,great site
Rob

Everything sounds normal to me. Oil pressure will go down as it warms up. That is a lot of boat for a 3.0 so I would think that your speed is about all you can expect. You should be able to maintain her yourself with a good manual and this forum. Good look with her!

Everything sounds right to me also. The idle should be about 600 rpm's. I would give her about 10 minutes warm up time or untill the temp gauge has moved, then proceed at idle or lower rpm's until fully warmed up. Mercruiser calls for 25W40 oil for that engine.
