Hi everyone. Decided to pick up this old evinrude tonight for 100 bucks. I kinda wanted a little project and a backup incase my main motor has issues. Anyways the guy said it ran good last year just had no use for it. He started it for a couple seconds on a little shot of carb cleaner. I know this is a bad practice, I hope it didnt damage it, but I'm sure it's okay. It did sputter up. Anwyays, the motor came with the evinrude simplex controls and a black junction box. It also came with the hood cowling with the front latch and everything. Prop looks almost brand new as well. Before I get into the standard tune up stuff I'm really confused about the wiring from the junction box. I seem to have a motor harness(makes sense) Pos and neg wired(makes sense) And a group of wires for some weird amp gauge?, the choke push switch, as well as 2 stripped wires for what I assume would be an ignition switch? Does that mean the ignition switch only has 2 terminals, on and off? Im not sure how aj ignition switch could be less then 3 way?(off run on)Maybe I'm not quite understanding it just seems confusing. Also there is a 2 studs on the outside of the junction box with wingnuts on them? As for the motor itself I really dont get what this thing on bolted on the right side is? It's got a wire connected right on top and there is a black wire with a ring terminal disconnected? Just not sure how to kill the motor with either manual and electric start? Anwyays any help or information on this motor at all would be very helpful as I try to get this thing running. Thank you!
