Looking forward to seeing the final product. The base of the boat is basically just like any other toon out there so long as the toons are solid and water tight, you are good. Once you are done, you will have a very fun boat that you don't have to worry about the first scratch or watching that payment leave the bank each month.

Great thing about pontoons is they are very flexible rebuild platforms. Do it the way you want and enjoy your time on the water..

So I went back out Sunday, and got the deck finished. We didn't get to the pontoons like we were hoping, but we did get a little more work done on the rails, so they should be done soon, and she should start getting put back together.

The new Herculiner on the deck. For $150 and a few hours of prepping and work, this is the best way I could think to do it, I have used this before, on my CJ7, and it came out amazing. 2 Gallons perfectly covered the 160 sq ft of the decking. Somehow the 20' boat has a 16x8 surface? Its confusing, but whatever.

This is one of the side rails completed and finished. Think what you want, but I have a feeling this boat is going to look bad ***

All I have left to do structure wise is to paint the toons, build my helm (likely going to be RHD, 3ft wide x 3ft tall x 1.5ft deep) and get my furniture mounted. And build a storage bin. After that point, it will be all the small, annoying, expensive things. IE: wiring, lights, stereo, ignition, gauges, etc)

If anyone has any input, I would love to hear your idea's! Im still new to this marine world, and figuring it out as I go

I do have construction, electrical, and mechanical experience, so thats of no concern to me.

I have been considering on how to comment on your project, I am a old wore out vet my self. I am 59. Last year after the second operation to restore my eye sight I was able to go back outside and do things again. I was more or less blind for 3 years and was more or less house bound. I also bought a old pontoon boat to rebuild hoping I would be able to regain some strength and end up with a decent boat to do a bit of fishing off of. And I can tell you it was a struggle at times. It took me three of four times longer to do about any thing on it than any one else could of. My plans were to put down a new deck and carpet and rewire and make some plywood boxes to sit on and store stuff in and make a console and get it on the water and do some fishing. And I did, and over the last winter I slowly added a few other things. Grins and I am still adding them slowly one little project at a time. Take your time and enjoy rebuilding it is the best advice I can tell you.

The great people here at iboats will give you a tremendous amount of support in any thing you want to do or try and some of thier ideas and projects still amaze me.

I should be back out there Saturday, I will get some pics. Its the original dual axel trailer, doesnt seem like anything fancy/crazy

Looking good Reminds me of a old 25' Kayot that My sons and I Rebuilt it was the original "Lucky Dog " The memories were worth every Penny ( Scratch That ) Dollar and Hour that we put into it . I hope that you get as many good memories as I had on my old toon . A bit of advice Keep it simple

My new toon sits on the water a little higher on the water but a bigger pain in the butt to deal with ! E.G > Cover & Uncover . wipe down to protect seats , tune engine < shop only , and on and on


BTW . Great Attitude " I grew up where hard work and creativity is what counted. I don't care how fancy of a boat someone buys, for I will build mine"

Wow, Boss Hawg - great job. That is almost exactly the same boat/year as the one I just bought a month ago. I bought mine with a blown motor, and took nearly an evening to swap out with a little smaller motor from my runabout. Toons in great shape, put it on water and ran great. I have been doing minor fixes (floor prolly good for another two years), and plan on rebuilding/recovering the furniture this winter. I saw quite a few great ideas on your rebuild - would you send me a bunch more pics so I can unashamedly steal some of your reat ideas? I really liked your console rebuild.

Looks like you are getting a lot done. The only comment I have is on the black bed liner on the deck - that stuff gets awfull hot and uncomfortable to walk on in the sun. Might want to consider a second coat in a lighter color or some rugs when you bring it out on the water. Better yet, $100 or so worth of indoor/outdoor carpet like most pontoons.

Actually I was delightfully surprised how hot it DOESN'T get. In a truck bed, where it's on metal, it heats the metal. On my boat deck, it's on wood, and the wood doesn't hold much heat. I have walked on it a few times after it was sitting in the hot Texas sun, and it's not too uncomfortable. 90%+ of what we do is fishing, and don't always take my shoes off.

There is a product out there called Cool deck or somthin like that that works well and probly alot cheaper than Rhino . I still a big fan of keeping it simple while carpet is nice it will eventually rot (5-10 yrs ) if left uncovered . i beleive the rhino deck comes in colors not sure if black is a good choice < Just my 2 cents ( actually worth 1 cent)


Does anyone out their know if Kayot was the 1st commercial toon manufacturer ( non Military ) . I know that my Kayot was 42 yrs old and i am am sure it is still on the water at least it was 2 months ago

I am sure I missed it but I hope you didn't use pressure treated plywood on the new deck. PT wood is bad against aluminum it dissolves it.

Yes that's a interesting trailer, it looks like a combination of a scissor and a bunk trailer and the tires being tucked up under it makes it low profile to launch and load, Just watch the handling till you get used to it, especially on a sharp turn because of the narrow wheel base. If you have time look through my rebuild thread. I rebuilt mine last year. Its the link in my signature. I may actually finish it some day. Right now I am making a new console and the trailer needs painting.

Thats about what i exspected, seen one other like it. It should do you fine, as said, expect sum "swaying" side to side when going over ruff ground slowly. My float on does the same, you'll get used to it. Just be sure you put the best tires you can find on it- you DO NOT want to have a flat on it on a narrow two lane road! Be glad you have 4 tires- mine has two. I've been looking for a used bunk style for 2 yrs, I refuse to pay more for a new trailor than i paid for my whole boat rig! :facepalm:

Here is my "rough plan" for the deck. As I explained, the front furniture is an outdoor deck style couch/footrest. The helm will be at the far back, with a 12x24" padded seat if/when i need/want it. But normal operation will be standing.

Each Square is 6", and the shaded area is seating.

Any idea's or known concerns would be great to know before I continue planning. Thanks!
