i just bought a 1999 50 ELPT merc 4 stroke and have a question or 2. i currently dont have access to the motor yet, stupid damn snowstorm gave us more snow last week that we had all year. grrrr.

anyways, is there anywhere to get a OWNERS MANUAL for this online? or do i need to buy one?

As for a service manual i will be getting a FSM for sure but if you could tell me what ebay (or wherever) that i would need. i dont understand the naming or guidelines for these manuals. 4 cyl? 4 stroke? bah confusing.

but my major concern is oil... as in my motor is a 50 ELPT, but being a 4 stroke (im unfamiliar with 4strk) is it oil injected? or do the 4 strokes not need this?

i think i know the answer but i want to be sure. (4 stroke does not 'burn' oil like a 2 stroke and therefore doesn't need the oil in the gas or injected, as it operates just like a vehicle's engine...correct??)

thanks

Re: new to me motor, few ??'s

Your motor is a 4 stroke, the lubricating oil is in a sump, same as a car. There is no oil injection.

E - Electric start
L - long shaft (20")
PT - power trim/tilt

If your motor had oil injection (2 stroke), the model would read ELPTO

Some owners manuals are available online for free, what is the serial number?

Sorry, no luck with a free manual.

The owners manual is part number 90-10120001, about $20

The workshop manual is part number 90-828631R 3, about $65

Google these numbers and you will find plenty of online stores. These are genuine manuals.
