New to me nissan outboard

Hey all just picked up a 2000 nissan 18 hp two stroke electric start for 1000 bucks. When I went to check it out I brought my muffs to hear it run and my compression reader. Everything checked out good on it. Started right up, compression was 130 & 128. Nice clean looking motor. It idled down beautifully and I didnt see really any problems with it at all. Ive been running it the past two days and I LOVE IT! First pull every time ( no battery for it yet). Hows the rep on these motors for tbis model year? Anything in particular I should be looking out for, or anything I could do to prevent any future problems I might run into? Thanks guys, sorry for the long post, new to the nissan/tohatsu outboards. Always have been with johnson/ evinrude, the older OMC's. The newest motor I have owned prior to this one was a 73! Time to upgrade for me! Thanks!!!!

Year is unimportant; condition is everything. These are solid designs; very reliable. As with all OB's keep after the cooling system, and stay with fresh, clean fuel, as well as TCW-3 oil, and you should be fine.

This model is my favorite one, very reliable and with extra punch compared to any 15 HP horse, run carb dry if won't be usung it on a daily basis including good water flush after each use.

In the US, all small 2-strokes are "obsolete", thanks to the EPA. But... In other areas, they are still the standard. Parts will be available for quite some time. For example: The wp kit fits all current 9.9-20 hp motors (both 2 and 4-stroke)... The carb kit fits all the 9.9C-18E2 2-strokes.

You should always stock some principle parts as water pump, carb and lower leg that comes as kits and have them handy, bad policy to need spares, call the distributor to find out that part is NA at the moment, prepare to have a grounded engine for some time and much worst if in plain summer season.
