I purchased this motor from a friend at work that hadn't run it in eight years. Took it home, checked carb, petcock and gas tank- all clear. Put some 40:1 mixture in it and it fired right up! Wow was I impressed that it started after all those years. NOW, I have a few questions and I know Tonaka quit making the motor. I ordered several little needed parts from Sears like the muffler gasket, etc.

How can I find out what year it was made i/e.. year model?
Can I find a replacement prop or duplicate that will work?
Can I change out the throttle lever to a "twist type"? (think it would be safer for my boys)
Is it better to run the 50:1 mix or is 40:1 okay?

I'm new to this outboard engine- sorry for the long post. I plan to use the motor
on a 14 ft jon to putt around our canal on the Gulf Coast. Thanks fellas..

hatatchi owns Tanaka now, they have a warehouse in Georga, I bought a new prop last year for 26$ shipped by just calling the warehouse down there but they only had 2 instock at that time, you will see used ones on ebay bring $50 dollars...go figure
