Hello,
I picked up this motor today and need some help confirming the model/year. There is no identification on the motor but I am guessing it is a 1953???

Also, any source for a parts list for this year motor? Anyone know what years parts are compatible? I am thinking the gear box is going to be a bear to deal with.

Thanks!

I am on my tab, so cannot see pics enough to determine for certain. WHat is the model number?

Parts are still ok to get for that model.

Re: new to me old Evinrude 15hp

I looked all over this thing and it appears the model num placards have been the victim of time - no longer attached.

The only numbers I can find are on the carb (375988) and on the cylinder covers (203253).

From looking at old brochures and comparing the "leg" of the motor I would guess it is a '53.

Any ideas on parts compatibility with newer motors ('55+)?

Cleaned most of the dirt and crud off this afternoon; it definitely looks like it will take some effort to get it rolling again.

You are bang on with your guesstimate. She is a 15012 Fastwin.

PM me with your email address.

PM sent, and thanks for the info!!

off the top of your head do you know if any of the guts of the gearbox are compatible with a '60 10hp johnson (no worries if you do not know, I can do the research).

I have been able to pull the gears out and I am going to give 'em a bath and see how they look. However, I have found that the pinion gear is "fused" in place. I have it soaking in PB blaster right now and will see what can be done after a bit. Am I okay to tap on it with a punch?

Thanks!

Well, I think I answered my own question about the '60 johnson gear box parts, too bad.

I was able to remove the pinion gear with some heat and a bit of tapping. then cleaned up what appears to be burned oil in the race and on the shaft and now it spins nice and true again.
I am still trying to remove the back gear from the bearing (I call it a bushing). It is pretty well stuck. I can get PB blaster to leak from areas around the coupling (spray in one side and it comes out another place) so it must not be totally seized. I will mess with it when I get home today and see if it has loosened up. If it has not I will probably drop it in boiling water for awhile and see what happens.

This motor did not come with a lower (base) cowl (among other things). I'm fairly certain it should have one, but I cannot get a good view of a full motor. I saw a lower cowl for sale that was removed from a '56; any ideas as to if it will fit this motor?

There is no lower pan, that is why the pre '55s in a lot of cases are louder while running.

Are you trying to remove the forward gear bearing (bushing)?

Do you have the parts manual?

Wow, good thing I picked up a bag of patience last week or I would be the proud owner of a lower pan that fit nothing I have. lol
I kept looking and looking at the motor trying to figure out how a lower pan would attach (couldn't find any bolt holes). Guess now I know how it attaches, it doesn't.

I did get the gear/bushing separated; the boiling water did the trick. Got it all cleaned up, reassembled and filled with oil. everything spins nice and smooth now.
Time to move to another section.

I do not have a parts manual for this model (no information as far as that is concerned). If you give I will accept. haha

Here's another question. There is a "plate" and spring on the upper shift rod. When I try and move the rod up and down it hits the yoke of the tilt lock. What is this thing and what is its function? Should the plate be above or below the clamp yoke.

Here are a couple pics of what I am seeing.... don't know if they explanatory.

**** EDIT I think it is called a reverse locking lever. so, I would guess it locks the motor to go in reverse so the motor does rise/pivot towards the surface??? If that is the case I am further guessing that the plate must ride atop the lever.

Anyone have a picture of the F/N/R gear selector? I am trying to determine it's position relative to the motor when in use.
