Re: New to Pontoon Speed Question

thanks every one for their input. To lakegeorge and EricJRW, i just thought the same today about contacting the mfg. Since it was recently purchased used, i did take it in to have it checked out. No water in the tubes, motor checked out fine, prop was a 11 degree. They put a "fin" of some sort above the lower unit to help raise it. With all that i went from 20mph to a top of 14-15mph while at WOT of 6000 rpm. I was told i had the "old style tubes" which they said was the culrpit. Not sure that is the case from reading everyones posting--still not making sense to me, but i do plan on calling the mfg soon. will keep everyone posted.

thanks again.

Re: New to Pontoon Speed Question

I have a 18 foot Lowe. Running a 40 hp Mariner with the bottom skinned I was indicating 15 - 17 MPH top speed. I added a waterglide, changed to a 80 HP Mercury and am now indicating 32 - 35 MPH!! My buddy has a GPS on his boat and tops out about 24 MPH. I can beat him out of the hole and run away from him at top end. The waterglide performance is truly impressive!

Did you have the waterglide on with the 40? I'd be curious to just what that got you... Or maybe numbers just from the 80, prior to the waterglide?
