New to the Forum and need some help

Hello, I'm new to the forum but I'm hoping I can get a little help on my big project. My father has a 1966 Starflite I'm trying to restore for him. Ive already done the floor, wiring and seats and am now working on the motor which is a 1967 75hp Chrysler. I fired it up last night and it ran great other then I had no water being discharged. I pulled off the lower unit to check the impeller and it looks great and is still lubed up from when we serviced it 2 years ago. I ran a hose to the brass tube inside the motor to make sure there was no blockage in the motor which there was none. I can see daylight when I look down on the impeller through the intake slots so I know there is no obstruction there either.

I took the lower unit to the only mechanic in the area that works on these older outboards and he says from what he can see it should work and yet it does not. I'm into this restoration more then the boat is worth and he wants $100.00 just to tell me what the problem is. Im getting to the point where I'm thinking about cutting my losses and getting rid of this thing but my 70 yr old father is rather attached to it.

Any ideas about what I should check next?

You running in a bucket or hose? What muffs are you using.Some muffs won't work on some Chryslers.The keyway/pin in the pump in right?Lower unit still off? Take the hose and run it up the copper pipe.See if water comes out.
Post closeup pic's of the pump and impeller and the wearplate and housing.J

Im using a big bucket of sorts which puts the water level about six inches higher then it needs to be. I did connect a hose to the brass/copper tube inside the motor and it flushed through and drained out just fine. I will take some pictures of it in the morning. I did take the impeller off to check if the lower seals were ok which they are.

My barrel has to basically be full for the water to stare pumping. Example: I store the boat on jack stands to get the wheel off the concrete 1-2?. Which puts the boat about 6? higher in the water and it w/n start pumping until I raised the water. To start pumping I had to be above where the 5? extension is bolted onto the leg (where bubbles are showing in one attachment.). That?s High! JOW

I guess I will try putting it all back together and take it up to the lake. I just hate driving for an hour to find out something is missing. Does anybody have a link to where I can see the pump kit, I have been unable to locate a picture of it online anywhere. I need to make sure that I have all the parts. It seems like there should be a seal in the housing that goes around the drive shaft.

Yea looks like your missing a seal in the housing.The old impeller is defiantly shot.valleysales@charter.net Has what you need.Good luck,J

Which view is obviously missing the seal? I saw the shaft seal listed in my Clymer (# 60) but d/n make the connection in the Pics. Is #52 the same shaft seal on a 1970, 35 HP Chrysler? I have only replaced the impeller and w/o any water related problem vs prop shaft seals related to gear oil leaking.

I think a 55 Gallon plastic barrel (for deep-water purposes) would be cheaper than driving an hour to test a pump. The river or more water will be need for power testing (from my experience).

I only have experience from attempting to service the 1970, 35 HP Chryslyer since 1985. I have small combustion engine experience from the early 70s that has really helped with servicing the magneto system. JOW

Well I sent an email to the folks Jerry suggested and waiting to hear back. I'm hoping they have a picture of the kit its self so I can actually compare what I have to whats in the kit.
