Hi All....Fisrt time visitor and first time poster here!

I just purchased a 1972-79 (not too sure) 15 foot PeterBorough tri-Hull boat with a 691cc Chrysler 45HP outboard (1979 I think). I did some work to get the engine going the other day (had the starter rebuilt, had the ignition rekeyed, and I changed the spark plugs and gear oil...and added a Stingray hydrofoil. I still have some issues and was hoping someone can assist......

Is there an easy way to test and perhaps rewire the front/rear Nav Lights?
How do I get the Speedometer to work?
What should my expected top spedd be with this Tri-Hull/motor?
Any suggestions for a good Fidh finder/depth finder? Does anyone have one for sale?

Thats it for now......I am sure I will have more questions as my interst grows and my wallet gets lighter....

Welcome to iboats. The boat I rebuilt two years ago was a '75 Galaxy tri-hull. There are guys here with a better knowledge than I have, but I'll take a stab at it since I just finished one.

1. I would recommend replacing the thermostat in the Chrysler. Mine had a 50 horse. I discovered they were prone to not getting water to the upper cylinder and blowing, which mine did. You might leave a message in the Chrysler forum asking what else to check on it.

2. There was no easy way to get to the bow light on mine. I ended up drilling a big enough hole to fish a wire down through. It takes 2 wires, pretty much like a car.

3. Check the hose running from the pickup on the back of the boat up to the speedometer. It works off of pressure. I had to replace the hose and pitot (I think that's what it's called) on the back of the boat.

4. I have a 70 horse Johnson on mine now. It ran 30-35 with the Chrysler, now runs 35-40. More than likely you'll be in the 30-35 range I would guess.

5. I have a Hummingbird 525. For a cheap black & white I've been happy with it. I'm looking now for something with GPS to put in my other boat.

Why do you want to rewire the nav lights?

Go and spend $10.00 and put a new speedo on the stern of the hull. Usually, that's the problem with a speedometer.
